knock problem - Cobb stage1 -93 map

Hi,

I see a lot of knock in 65-85 load between 1500 and 2500 rpm. There I usually see 1-15 knock sum. All the knocks occurre in 4-5 ms inj. pulse. Are these knocks dangerous?

In all oter ranges thing are going fine. (max 1 knock sum here and there)

I looked into this map and I see that this load and RPM is exactly the point, where the engine is getting into open loop. Which map should I enrich to eliminate these knocks? (I would not like to decrease the default map timing due to tq loose)

Thanks for help.
Martin.

Martin, what are the modifications you've done to your vehicle? (Filter, etc)

If I recall correctly, the AP does not display knock counts, but rather displays knock retard (amount of timing it is pulling on account of detecting knock). Regardless, 15 degrees of advance taken out of your timing you'd certainly notice.

Just replaced stock filter with K&N drop-in in stock intake.

I know AP shows knock retard, which is 1/3 of knock sum. So to be prcise I see 0.7-5 knock retard, which should be equal to 2-15 knock sum. Or am I wrong?

Try flashing the Stage I + HKS intake map. The standard Stage I map might lean out too much with a drop-in filter causing some knock and timing retard - like you are seeing.

This is normal.

These engine knock in low rpms. Do not worry about it.

This information was posted by COBB search for it.

I have read the Cobb article, but there is really no way to get it out?

I tried the HKS map with the same result...

Any theories on what causes it? I have repeatable knock in 60-80 load between 1000-2000 rpm's when leaving from a complete stop (after I'm done slipping the clutch). It's not all the time, but I would guess at least half the time? This happens on a completely stock car. I even switched back to the factory tune and it still does it.

Same here... but all my knock is from 1100 to like 2000rpm and 50-60% load. Highest it gets to like 8-9 counts, but no timing is being pulled.

LOL so all EVO's do it. I noticed that minimizing the timing down low helps with the issue but not much. I think it is some mechanical factor.

Might be and it is showing knock...

I wonder if raising the values in the knock control maps in those RPM ranges would help this issue...

On mine it has worked for most of the low RPM knock.
I can actually hear my TOB @ 1k-2kRPMS when I do a light rev and I can show a high amount of knock at idle just by revving.
