AMS Evo X tuning Prices ?

Just wondering why such a big difference in tuning prices from the evo 8-9 and the evo x. Is the Evo X that much harder to tune? Double the price seems high!

Predatory pricing? It depends on who you ask. Is the X harder to tune than the VIII/IX, yes but twice as hard? (as reflected in the price) Probably not. I've come to realize the slippery slope of EFI tuning after modifying a few cars in my lifetime. You're better off learning to do it yourself. The best one is when they charge you a significant amount of money for a retune. And by retune I mean the addition of say, switching from an MBC to a 3 port BCS and NOT a complete engine build.

Saw a thread about this on EvoX and I was shocked. The shops local to me charge the same amount for Evos.

I think ECUTek licensing fee has to do with the difference in pricing. I believe AMS uses ECUTek for the EvoX which has a licensing fee per vehicle which is added to the cost of the tune itself.

Guys, be happy, 350$ is a very reasonable price for a tune. In Russia it costs between 500 and 700+...

In Japan it's around $1000 to $2500 USD depending on the tuner

Pricey or not, I absolutely LOVE my AMS tune. Nothing better than dealing with someone local.

Correct, AMS uses ECUtek, which is why it is so high. A retune would be cheaper since you already bought the license. The 8/9 is probably cheaper because the license is cheaper since the software has been out forever.

Ecutek license fees are higher for the Evo X. That is why the price is higher.

Even though the price is high, AMS service and tuning speaks for itself.

My $.02.

Yes our tune pricing is more than most others out there! In the same way you pay more for a Porsche dealer than you do at a Hyundai dealership for service. We are often on the cutting edge of tuning for these cars, and all of the R&D behind making your cars work correctly costs money, not to mention the equipment pricing that is involved.

Since EVO 8 and 9's are tuned with basically FREE hardware/software, the pricing is much lower, and as the EVO X gets a bit older, the prices will start to come down. For the time being, there still aren't many people that have taken the X nearly as far as we have, and kept them running for an extended period of time, stock motor or not. This is the kind of experience that people will gladly pay for.

Also, any tunes that go out the door at AMS have a 100% satisfaction policy on them. If there is ever anything that you don't like about the tuning, which is NOT a mechanical related issue I will fix it for you for 100% free. I feel comfortable saying that we have the most experience tuning forced inducted cars in the Midwest and surrounding villages.

Chris, you do both Ecutek and EcuFlash for the X, correct? Care to elaborate on the +/- of each, and if you have one you prefer, why?

I'm more curious than anything else... I'm already on the EcuFlash platform
