Is this normal?
I just bought an 08 gsr a couple of weeks ago with 13000 miles. Previous owner installed Perrin cat back and from turbo down pipe to cat. with Vishnu 380x reflash. After a little reading I know the Vishnu is a genral type tune (not the best to go with but that he used) ect. That is all that has been done to the car performance wise. The car runs great but I have noticed carbon on the rear of the car and have seen black smoke puffs sometimes between shifts. Last owner says he has never had any error codes. Is the carbon/black puff normal or should I be concerned, will I see problems down the road if the car is running too rich? I don't have any gauges so I can't even tell you guys how much boost or AFM numbers, sorry. Only gauge I have is the puffs and carbon on the bumper. Not much in the way of tunning shops in louisiana if I need a new tune but let me know what you fellows think.

Well, here we go! Had to go home and clean my undies out after WOT/pulling out in traffic two days ago. SES light and the car would not go over 10mph. like I had water in the tank and not gas. After nearly getting run over, I finally made it to the shoulder. Killed the car looked under the hood finding nothing out of place. Started it back up with things back to normal, - a sometimes crazy idle and the SES that went away before I made it home.
After some research I swoped out the day time running lights relay and fuel pump relay. Day time lights did not work when I first started the car so I thought all was good. Took the car out last night, WOT, SES again with noticiable power lose but not like the other day. No strong gas smell like others have posted.
The dealership in my area is new and in their own words "bring it in, we will do our best, we are still learning here". Can't wait to see what they come up with!!
Any other ideas before I bring it in?

I guess it is silly asking for ideas because I have no way of pulling the error code. I guess I am just needing to talk about it more than anything. The wife just gives me the "look" if I say anything about. What look you ask, the we could have put in a pool, things for the house, etc. "look".
Back to driving the 95 that I have been driving for 13 years, glad I held on to it.

Go buy a 10 dollar OBD-II code reader, pull the code, search.
If you want someone to hold your hand and comfort you, I suggest an escort service. Just say you're not looking for sex, you just want some companionship. They generally give you a price break on that too.

Have you tried pulling the spark plugs and check its condition. Sometimes to rich can foul plugs and cause a misfire and throw the SES light and cause the car to go into "limp mode". Than when you shut the car off and start it back up it sort of resets cause it doesnt detect the misfire anymore.

Yeah I pulled them, with all the piston braking stories I got scared. They looked good, no build up, and more brown than black. I haven't seen any more carbon on my bumper between my last wash like before. It feels like it's not getting fuel when it happens.
The last time SES came on the car had a 1200rpm idle that would not drop to normal. I turned it off fired it back up and normal idle. Grimlins?

No $h**, I'm all about a discount. Might be able to get a little more off the price if you're working with a small tool, you think?
Were you launching it when you got these codes? I know you said you were pulling out it traffic, but just curious.
If it were me, I would get a tune. With the right tune, you won't throw codes everytime you push the gas to the floor. Very small investment for the performance gains and piece of mind you get. Your tune may be Vishnu, or it may be one that someone (previous owner) has been tinkering with. There are some GREAT tuners in FL...Not far from LA.

Went to auto parts store they pulled the codes for me, p1235 and 1238. I cleaned MAFS and checked the filter, which it was kind of dirty/questionable. I have a ETS intake on order coming in this week, so buying a new filter to try is a waste. I think it is one of the two giving the trouble, been to the track and 1500 miles of driving a bit aggressive getting used to the car. Didn't have any trouble until now don't think it's the tune.

And adding the intake is also going to exacerbate the problems you're having with those airflow codes.
