Idle timing

Hi guys,

what idle timing do you run on the X? I tried to change from 10 to 20 timing advance without noticing any difference in idle stability (light hesitation sometimes). What is your experience?

Stock cams, just wanted to try if it can make the idle smoother. Doesn´t look like.

20 is way too high. Use MIVEC adjustments and *maybe* add 3-4* to idle.

Something that will really blow your mind is that the 2011's have 26-30* in the 500 to 1000rpm and 0-20 load region, oem.

Well oh snap, call me Shirley. Without some serious MIVEC / head flow adjustments won't that result in insanely high idle EGTs?

Yes, this makes me crazy (I saw it before)... 10 or 26 degrees is pretty big difference, is there anything else changed (MIVEC)?

I know someone named Shirley... he's a lot smarter than you. It would be a compliment.

Has anyone found the table for this on the 2011+? I want to add 1-2* at idle. The HOTM doesn't actually effect idle timing as its always at 10* during stock idle RPM. I *could* adjust the Idle compensation map to do it, but I'd rather change the actual target and use the compensation map as a - compensation map.

I ended up flashing my 2011 down to a 2010 rom so any changes to the timing values actually effect it. The main reason I did it was to allow use of the TephraV1 at the time. Not sure if you can bench flash a 2013 down to a 2010 to get the same effect but it might be an option.
