ASC system service req

Hey guys... I searched this phrase... "asc system service required" and everything I read indicated that the ASC service light comes on when peoples Evo's are under high boost, with larger turbos, over 29psi, etc. My car is completely stock... except for my turbosmart BOV which is on full recirc.

My ASC system service required light comes on whenever I'm getting on the freeway and I stomp on the gas pedal and change lanes to get up to speed. The merge lane is about 250ft and traffic travels at about 80mph so it's kind of unavoidable. I'm going to take my car into Mitsu today, I already talked to my SA and he said bring it in, but if they can reproduce it or find out what it is I want to know what you all have to say about it from past experience or because of your knowledge of the Evo X.

Thanks guys.

Sounds like you are either leaking boost to your wastegate / BCS and going over 30psi. Some threads suggest you may have left an airflow hose off or the ASC fluid may be low.

Double check your vacuum / recirc hoses and fluid level.

Thanks. my SA said it could be the factory wastegate malfunctioning. I haven't upgraded anything on the car and the boost is completely stock. I still have factory hosing for everything as well, so if there is boost leak, I guess it is from the wastegate. I checked the hoses on my BOV and they're all in tact. As mentioned the BOV is fully recirc. I can in fact reproduce the ASC light under heavy load, I don't even need to swerve or anything, all I have to do is go WOT and it'll click on.

I asked about having mitsu use an aftermarket wastegate if mine is in fact bad. My SA said it shouldn't be a problem to have mitsu install it for me and I just pay the difference in the part... I'm sure they'll warranty the work and everything else, just not the particular wastegate itself, which is understandable and fine... my warranty is almost expired.

Just had my 30K mile service so all fluids were replaced, unless mitsu didn't refill the ASC all the way... The cars being looked at now, I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks for the response.

Even tho its stock? I didn't know that. so should I do anything with the stock wastegate? I called map and asked about it, they suggested the forged internal wastegate. i was waiting to get my exhaust too, but I cold just install my intake and UICP and get it tuned... is that what I'm understanding for the most part?

It happened again yesterday, stomped on the gas, big thud, then ASC light comes on, put in neutral, clutch in, turned off, restarted, no light.

I will try the tune and retest.

Mine did this too when the boost would spike when I was first learning to tune. I think the ACS shuts off to prevent damage from excessive boost\TQ. You need to get your boost under control before damage is done.

asc magically disappears

Ok...my asc service required light magically disappeared when I was bringing it to the dealer to run the code and since then, then has come up. I pushed the car hard after that to see if it will pop up again but nothing. Can anyone tell me what is going on?

^Same thing happened to me on the way to the parts store. When I came back out and started the car, it was off. Never came back. Glitch in the matrix? Who knows. I've seen it happen with CEL's quite often (other cars). Sometimes I clear them, and they never come back.

My asc ssr light came back on for a day and went off again..so my question is...the fact that it keeps popping up randomly can I still go to the dealership n have them check to see what codes come up even with the ssr indicator not showing at the moment?
Basically I'm asking will the codes appears without the indicator light showing?

I apologize for bringing up this old thread. I had a similar issue with my car, The ABS Wheel Speed Sensor malfunctioned. I confirmed it when I plugged my ABS Scanner then the code popped up, that confirms the ABS needs change. I did a lot of searches on this issue and came on in depth article which may be worth reading, search for "Mitsubishi ASC Service Required Warning on YOUCANIC" and you will see an article that goes over common causes and possible fixes, you can read about it yourself. I hope this information can assist someone else with a similar issue.
