Going E85 question

I'm close to converting to E. I have done a ton of research but had a few questions. I read a few posts stating you should get it retuned after going through a few tanks of it as the original tune may have had some 91 mixed in. Anybody do this and notice a difference?

If so, and to make it a little easier on the wallet, I was thinking of doing the E conversion now, then after Xmas when I have gone through a bunch of tanks and I have the money I will have the ETS 3.5 IC and piping installed. Then retune. It will cost me a little more than doing it all at once but it will allow me to have a reason to do the retune on pure E and have the money to do the IC and gauges.

I have a 2012 X currently at 335hp 334 tq on a Dynapack. My mods are UR exhaust and test pipe, ETS Intake, 3 port, front UICP and some suspension mods. Hoping to get close to 400hp which would be about a 20% inc. Not sure if I can but close would be nice. Just worried I won't feel much of a difference after I get all the work done.

Also, do they change the formula on E85 in California in the winter like I hear they do in other states?

Funny side note, in all my google searching I ran across some hilarious posts regarding E in the BMW and Z forums stating everything from E will melt you gas lines to melt your tank. Read one in a Z forum that said Subbys can handle E but It will melt the lines in mitsus causing your tank to fill with black gunk.

I think 1000cc is probably the minimum on a stock turbo for E, maybe even 850 but without much headroom. Definitely won't need 1450, but 1200 shouldn't be overkill.

Anything over 1100 is the norm for E85

ID1000's can work for E right? If not, then get the 1300's. I'm on those currently and they operate phenominally

I'm doing it at RRE. I trust what they use will be the correct parts. They told me they use 1200cc. My experience with them is they have always been great. From my research it looks within the range. I have seen people use from 850 up.

Can't wait. Really praying I can feel a big difference as it's going to be a little more inconvenient than running 91.

Why didn't you just talk to RRE about this...They drain the tank through the fuel pump then put E85 in there so you won't have any excess 91. They do dual map fuel tunes all day long, don't have people go through multiple tanks of fuel, and I don't think they will tune your car to the edge of breaking on almost any ethanol percentage. If you want to be extra safe get the Zeitronix E85 gauge that calculates it real time and ask them what is safe.

My differences were 80HP to the wheels, pretty noticeable....

Sometimes the person that can tell me isn't there so I was just bringing it up here out of curiosity and different opinions. Could probably help others that have the same question in the future.

Oh. Well I trust Mike. It's like a woman with a hairstylist. Lol. I'm not into the racing in a straight line scene. Seams like an overly simplistic form of racing right up there with NASCAR. Credit for winning goes more to the person that built the engine than drove the car.

I prefer going right and left. But thanks for the suggestion. It's also my only car so I'm ok leaving a little HP/TQ on the table if it means I can go a little longer before I need to rebuild.
