Is operating without a retune dangerous in my case?
Is operating without a retune dangerous in my case?
Hello all,
I bought a used 2011 X GSR with a CBRD RBX turbo kit and FBO/injectors. Fuel relay is upgraded. I don't know the complete history of the car.
It has a Cobb AP with a CBRD 93 octane tune loaded.
I live in Washington. We only have 92 at the pump, so I have been mixing 110 octane with 92 at the pump to target 94 octane. Obviously this isn't an exact science but I overshoot on the 110 component of the mixture. I have also experimented with a full tank of 100 octane unleaded to eliminate that as a variable, and found that it makes no difference in the knock behavior.
I still get a slow flashing SES light indicating knock about once every 3-4 WOT pulls. The gear does not seem to make a difference and sometimes SES never indicates knock.
Obviously, I need to get it retuned or find out what is going on. I don't have a wideband.
Here is a log of a recent drive where I purposefully tried to get the SES to trigger. Sometimes I can go 1st gear all the way through 4th full WOT with NO flashing/knock. Other times, I can get it with a docile 4th gear acceleration on the freeway to pass someone.

I know nothing about tuning other than 'knock bad' and going lean can blow up an engine. Are these knock values an indication to stop driving the car in heavy boost until I get it looked at? My goal is to redo some of the FBOs and have it tuned at English in a few months anyway...
Any help or advice is appreciated.

Here is your log on Datazap so it's easier to view: https://datazap.me/u/razorlab/evo-x-...7-8-9-10-11-12
Hard to tell because your sample rate sucks but I would def lay off the WOT until you can get the tune checked. Looks like a good amount of timing and no idea what your AFR is.

Thanks for the reply. Had no idea about datazap, nice quick tool!
Ordered the wideband today and going to lay off it for a while until I can find out if it's a fueling issue or a tuning issue. I read some other threads across the forums talking about their fuel filters causing issues.
