Lots of Evo X EvoScan questions
Lots of Evo X EvoScan questions
Hello all:
Its been a while since I sold my IX, but Im back... albeit with an X now. I am currently building a 2008 GSR to compete in road racing. I have never worked on an X, nor driven one so this is essentially me jumping into the deep end head first during a monsoon but I am getting through it. I have had various warning lights on in the car since day one, and haven't paid too much attention up until now. Went to the dyno the other day and he was able to read the codes while tuning the car. I have the following codes. He said he could read these codes, but could not clear them. Using my over the counter Bosch scanner I cannot see any codes.
C1219: Abnormality in steering wheel sensor signal
C2205: Internal abnormality in steering wheel sensor
U0100: EFI/Engine-ECU temporary CAN timeout
C1290: Temporary CAN timeout
C1242: Abnormality in G and yaw rate sensor/abnormality in longitudinal G sensor output signal
My tuner told me that I need to reinstall the clock spring behind the aftermarket steering hub in order to get the steering angle sensor to work. Makes sense. If I resolve the steering angle sensor issue, will the other codes fix themselves? I also read that if you turn the key to the ON position without starting it and hold the gas pedal at WOT, the ACD pump will prime. I have tried on multiple occasions with no success. Yesterday I took the rear bumper off and accessed the pump, with the assumption that the pump is ****. It looks terrible, so I did not have faith but I jumped the pump with battery power and it turned on. so at least I have that going for me.
Now that the background info is mostly there, here are my questions. I cannot clear these codes with EvoScan, but I can read them.. correct?
If I resolve one of these codes, and then reset the cars electrical system, I can see the codes clear in EvoScan so that I can verify that the problem is solved?
I have a RossTech VCDS cable for the wifes car. Apparently you MUST release the parking brake when servicing, or the brakes will implode themselves. Can I use the VCDS cable with EvoScan??? or am I going to have to purchase an OpenPort cable?
I have had EvoScan and ECUFlash on every DSM car Ive ever owned, but never personally played with it. I have always had tuners do that and then not touch it otherwise. So I am EvoScan mentally challenged....
Thanks for the help

I've had a hot minute of experience in EvoScan, but yes I believe you can clear there. Also, based on what the error codes are I WOULD guess that C1219,C2205, and C1242 could be all related as they are the steering sensor being compared to the yaw sensor and they obviously cannot agree.
All that need likely needs done is either recalibrate the steering angle sensor, or replace it. Take it to the dealer or a shop if you don't have the scan tool capable of this or you'll just be throwing parts at it and you'll still have codes. Evoscan won't clear the other modules.
So I have finally gotten around to working on this. I went ahead and ran EvoScan again, receiving the same five codes. I have installed the closckspring and lined it up the best I can. Is there a way in EvoScan to let the ECU relearn and calibrate? Or is there a way to manually calibrate the steering angle sensor? There is zero possibility I could take this car to a dealer, so whatever needs to be done I am either going to have to do here or at a shop. Unfortunately the shops around me are not well versed on this platform.
