Its cool noize.
I just believe that the stock clutch isnt as bad as people make it out.
Like i said, I launched both of my bolt on evos a bunch of times, one with the restrictor, one without. I launched them both a lot of times (40+) and both clutches were fine at around 40K miles. If someone can launch a certain car with a certain clutch a bunch of times and have nothing happen, then someone come and cant launch the same car, its not the cars fault or the clutches fault, its the drivers.
The reason this stuff makes me so pissed, is that rumors get started then i go on other forums and have to deal with kids saying the EVO clutch sucks and i have to correct them, etc.

Well, it looks like before I start launching mine I have to first figure out what this stupid restrictive pill is, than eliminate it, than get a better stage clutch. Oh well, how much a clutch+install will cost...I don't know...hopefully won't be a killer. **** the warranty, it looks like they get rid of it after a boost controller and intake anyways.

The only thing that is similar is the clutch itself...launching is not similar at all!
Dude, it's not the same car. The majority of the X gearboxes out there are tighter/notchier, and the restrictor pill seems to be more restrictive. Some of the items in the transmission that deal with engaging/disengaging the clutch may also be different. How can you come to the conclusion that "because your stock clutch in your sub X Evo has taken a lot of abuse, the X clutch should be able to do the same"?

the clutch is the SAME unit. and the restrictor pill is the same. The VIII and IX gearboxs where notchy also.
Im over this.....

I am not harping on you or anyone else...It just annoyes me when people's first reaction on a thread is to bash the guy with the issue instead of trying to understand/help what might really be going on. Not all forum members are complete idiots, and some of us have years of experience.
Evo_Kid, please stop trashing the thread.
In this case, you are flat out wrong. I had VIII, IX, and X, and the clutch burning problem on this car is by far the worst of them all.
I know its the same clutch and a very similar tranny, but there is some problem. The car is 300 pounds heavier, and the clutch just smells a lot faster than it did in my VIII and IX. It also smelled just with acceleration over the first 3000 miles. It smells putting it on the dyno. And it slips much worse.
IMO, unless you have experience with all three cars, you don't have a dog in this fight. Please stop.

OK, you guys just keep telling yourself whatever you want to make you content.............
Noize Im not trashing ****. I am a member on this board and Im entitled to share my opinions based on my experiences.
Oh yeah, a X is ALOT different then a IX. Its not a AWD, 4 cylinder turbocharged sedan anymore..... Sorry I forgot......
Like I said Im over this...please dont address my post. Just read it and move on...

LOL it's the same layout but heavier and geared lower, so of course the same exact clutch will be less up to the task...you are entitled to your opinion but so are other people entitled to their opinion of your opinion...works both ways...
EDIT: actually lower gearing would HELP the clutch, but still it's not the same car. similar, but not the same...

Now think of this: Pretend you have a huge friend that weighs 300 pounds. It would be like launching a full weight VIII with your 300 pound friend in the car. So the car has gained almost 10% more weight, but its still using the same clutch? (And we knew that clutch is hit and miss in even barely modded IXs). Of course its a weak point.
My whole issue is not your input with the IX. I think you have a good point there. My issue is that you have never driven the 300 pound heavier Evo X, but are equating it to being the EXACT same clutch behavior as the IX, and that does not make sense.
Answer these questions for me, Evo_Kid:
-Why is Turbotrix's clutch dead already? That car can't have more than 2000 miles on it, and its not even making 400whp yet.
-Why did my clutch reek the first 2500 miles when I floored the car in first?
-Why did neither my VIII or IX do this brand new?
-Do you think I am lying when I say this clutch burns and reeks much worse than my VIII or IX clutches did? Why would I lie?
Unlike you, I have owned all three Evos. I think my actual experience with the X clutch proves there is a flaw with your opinions of the X clutch, which is nothing more than your best guess.

Evo_Kid, are you really going to make me lock this thread and clean it out? The gearing is the same, but the FDR is a little shorter. The difference is a whopping 2mph at 7000rpm- The Evo VIII and Evo X both go 40mph at 7000rpm in first, the Evo IX goes 42mph at 7000rpm in first. That's an extremely marginal difference, dude.
With the FDR being shorter, It makes it EASIER to move the extra eight of the X

First, my VIII had about 5% more weight then a stock VIII and about 20% more power. And it used the same clutch.
Next, clutch has NEVER been the weak point. That is a MAJOR rumor started by a bunch of FWD drivers that couldn't launch a AWD car. Instead of taking fault for their lack of skill and knowledge of the car, they blamed the clutch. If you really like to know why the clutch in the VIII and IX had problems, here it is...
The flywheel design gave it (the flywheel) a tendency to get hot and not properly get rid of the heat. When you mix this with a bouched launch (or in most cases more then one bouched launch), you get major clutch damage. The thing is if you launch the car correctly and let the flywheel cool down between runs, every thing will be fine.

My best bet...they are a shop and there putting parts to the test (abusing them) to check their dependability
-Why did my clutch reek the first 2500 miles when I floored the car in first?
You shouldn't floor the car before the clutch is properly broken-in
-Why did neither my VIII or IX do this brand new?
Some would say that they did. I would say those people also abused their clutches
-Do you think I am lying when I say this clutch burns and reeks much worse than my VIII or IX clutches did? Why would I lie?
I dont think your lying at all. I just think your blaming stuff on something that might not be at fault.

This comment makes your creditability go down. Your saying the same thing the OP. Just cuz I dont own a certain car has NOTHING to do with my automotive knowledge
