I do have a slight update. I called last night for a status of the car and spoke to the technician. He said he had not started on the car yet, however he did recieve numerous calls from Mitsubishi engineers as to his progress and why he has't started.

So this tells me that Mitsu is VERY interersted about the issue since engineers have called several times in one day asking for a status....thats a good thing.
Interesting.

I bought my X on tuesday, and it was notchy 1-2 and 2-3 from the start just like the rest. It has me a bit concerned especially since I live in a smaller town and I'm not totaly confident in my local dealership.

I did call them and they said they had their main tech in Evo class today, and he would call him and have him bring it up in class and see what they say. I have yet to hear a response though.

I wonder just how many cars are experiencing this problem.

Ok so I talked with my service manager, he said he informed the tech to ask the X instructor about the issue, and the instructor himself called back and said the X he drove to the class did the same thing.

He claimed that this was "normal" during the first few thousand miles and the car learns itself and breaks in drivetrain components.

Now I'm not sure if I believe this or not. But that's what I was told.

Guess we wait to see what happens with the OP's car.

If this is the stance they are taking, I am going to be really pissed off. I like this car, but if the tranny goes more wonky than it already has and they don't help me out, I'm getting rid of it.

Guys,

I called to check the status of the car today and was told that the clutch replacement was cancelled.

The dealership recieved some type of TSB or something today (dated and released today) that they are not to service ANY Evo X's with shifting issues. The TSB/letter stated that they are aware of a hard shifting issue, especially when cold, and they are working on releasing a new tranny fluid to resolve the issue.

I asked about the clutch draging and they stated, they have to try the fluid change first, WHEN IT"S RELEASED. I wonder how ong that will take.

So there you have it folks....apparently mitsu is aware. I will try to get more info.

That does sound fairly reasonable. My Si had very similar shifting issues which were resolved when Honda released a new transmission fluid. Haven't had much trouble since. Hopefully Mitsu sends something out quickly...

Thanks for keeping the community informed of your situation. Glad to hear that Mitsubishi is working on something. Just hope it doesn't take too long and there isn't any long term damage to the X's out there already.

A lot of my friends and family could not understand that I wanted to buy this car and then store it for so long (I live in the north and am keeping my car stored down south). Now that decision is not looking so bad at all. I'll get to come home once, twice a year and drive the car for a few weeks and it'll still be minty and fixes for relatively minor problems should be in the works too.
Btw, I'm one of the fortunate few who didn't have any problems with the clutch or transmission for hte first 2200kms that I got to drive the car before I had to park it.

+1 This is a brand new car... More issues will pop up over the next year, I wouldnt be too quick to do mods than cant be easily put back to stock.

Cheers!

I took my X in for the third time today for the grinding/notchiness issue. The mechanic checked for TSBs and told me there were none.

I will be one happy camper if they put out a TSB for new fluid and it fixes my shifting problem and a new ECU flash comes out that fixes my high rpm stutter. If not Mitsu will be buying my car back.

Here is your ECU flash solution from MMNA.

Now we just gotta wait for that TSB for transmission/clutch

So would you guys let the dealer tear the car apart and replace the clutch/flywheel with the stock unit on a car with only 3200 miles?

I am concerned a bolt will be lost, a clamp won't be secured, something will get stripped...etc...etc..etc
A design flaw in a first year new model, from Mitsubishi??? Say it isnt so!
