ETS Exhaust Review

First off I would like to say thanks to ETS and Tom for getting these parts out quickly. Thank you. Now on to the exhaust. I just pretty much finished up the exhaust and there were something that I like and some that I would have done differently.

Quality - It was top notch. This thing looks great. One of the best exhaust that I have seen in a long time.

Install - What a PITA. This is one thing I think I would have done differently. First I had the exhaust to high up into the car and everything was touching everywere. Also because of the fact that the tips were not welded to the exhaust I am not quite sure I have this positioned the way it is suppose to go , but it does seem to line up. I would of just welded the tips offered and then not give to many adjustment points. Some may like this, I really don't care to much for it. I 'll have to give Tom a call in the mourning because in the process of clamping the tips. I overtighten the clamps and must have striped the nut on the clamp. I must be doing something wrong cause I just can't get those clamps tight enough to make the tips stay.

Sound - This thing really sounds good. A little on the loud side for me, but I mean it really sounds good. Very deep and aggressive, just a perfect sound for an EVO. Hard to explain but if you bought it I think most would love the sound.

Overall I am happy I made the decision buying this exhaust and would recommend it to anyone. Just make sure you give yourself some extra time for lining things up or do the next best thing and have a shop work on it. I will try to get some pics up once the exhaust tips are set in place and will also try to give a review on the FMIC and pipe with intake as I should be getting them delivered Tomorrow and installed this weekend.

Hey CJ,
Was good to talk to you again today and glad to hear that you got everything lined up and installed and that first impressions are good! Any pictures yet?

Kevin,
All of the mounting tabs are welded to the system and I think you might be confusing the X with the VIII and IX regarding the JDM bumper. The tip pipes use a slip connection which will now be slotted, and a T-bolt clamp for connection. This allows for adjustment to fit the tips perfectly within the bumper openings, and prevents any misalignment issues that are seriously bothersome for most as far as fitment and aesthetics are concerned. It would be far easier and less expensive from a manufacturing standpoint to weld them, but we prefer the slip connection for a guaranteed perfect end install result as we feel that is a benefit of the system. Anyone that would prefer their system welded we are happy to do that instead

Tom

Tom

Thanks again for your help. I ended up bringing the car home for the muffler shop and reinstalled it. It work out better for some reason the second go around. I must have had something on wrong or was better rested from yesterday. I did end up slotting the exhaust and it worked out great. Nothing a little jigsaw can't fix. Well on with the pics. This thing is nice and looks good.

Here is the pictures. First one is my slight mod to make a better clamp for the Exhaust tips. Some of you might not need this. I just felt it needed to be a little tighter.

In that last picture it looks like you have the jack stand on the rear control arm supporting the cars weight. Please tell me that it's just the angle in the picture that makes it look like that, because that's a big no no.

No real good place to put the Jack stands. I have the body kit so putting the stand in the standard area will crush the side skirts and anywere on the frame will leave major dents. Is there anyone that you may know that make flat top stands with a rubber pad like on a lift?

I will try to post some pics of the car on the ground tomorrow if I am back in town before it gets dark. I can also do a sound clip then. The Muffler cans do hang down a little but not bad at all. all aftermarket exhaust that will have two mufflers will hang down. I see no other way unless you want some 90 degree bends. It does look good.

You can and I think one of the vendors already has done something similar to what you are talking about, but I do think you will see pipping just under the rear end.

Well after driving it on a trip for 100 miles I have decided this exhaust is just not for me. It is a little to much on the loud side. Sounds deep and aggressive but a bit too loud. Here is the post were I put it up for sale. It is off the car now and the stock exhaust is back on. Exhaust only has less then 150 miles on it.
