AMS EVO X Turbo kit Development

Since we let the images go in our USCC thread I thought I would start one dedicated to anything and everything Related to the development of our EVO X Turbo kit.

I'm sure you guys knew we were working on one, LOL. I thought it only fair we start to share some images of the header. The kit will be a V-band kit using a Tial V-Band housing with Garrett based turbos and A Tial44 MM wastegate. The header is really a work of art. Our engineers once again put their heads together and came up with one hell of a design. Using a cast header our options open up a bit on what we can do.

Here are some CAD drawings of the header and the plastic Rapid prototype we had made to test fitment.

Enjoy!

Eric

The X has tight clearances and with building a tubular header in that small place you could really pose some safety issues with it. Causing a fire would not be a good thing on a brand new X.

Also the engineers wanted me to note that the runner on the end of the plastic header has a pretty decent kink in it. If you look in the drawings it does not. Initially that kink was there because we thought it was needed for clearances. After test fitting it we noticed we could use a much smoother design which is now depicted in the CAD drawings.

Aren't you guys afraid that the plastic won't hold up to the heat?

On a serious note that looks really good and I bet that heat shield wrap would still work with a setup like that. Perrin is working on a heat wrap to reduce the radiant heat effecting the compressor side of the turbo which is great. I would imagine that this cast manifold would hold up better compared to a tubular manifold when it comes to chances of cracking under heat and stress.

What do you guys use to make your plastic prototype? Some sort of CNC equipment to shape it?
