wastegate?

has it been determined that the wastegate is the cause of boost taper on the x?

That is normally the reason, either the boost tapers becasue the turbo is too small or the wastegate is opening. Your ten has a factory adjustable wastegate arm. You need to adjust that bad boy by atelast one turn in. It will tighten the arm and youll instantly have more power. some people are doing 2-3 or even fully tightening it. Id recomend getting a boost controoler of some sort. I have this forsale if you interested. (hope im not breaking the rules)

thanx for reply

EVO X Billet Wastegate Actuator

Has anyone tried this yet? Not sure if this would fix it but seems like a cheap fix if it does.

Jun also has one of these! Has anyone used these and does it keep the boost up all the way to redline?

I would say that with the IAT as high as they are stock..... Increasing your wastegate actuator pressure wouldn't help them much.. Forcing the turbo to run more boost by doing this would work your turbo harder and increase temps even more I say that at least upgrade your IC before doing this. The fact of the matter is that the stock turbo is small Running not much more than stock boost levels would push the turbo out of its efficency range and cause it to "push hot air" just my .02

The actuator will indeed help in holding boost better at higher boost levels all teh way till redline . We have ran 30lbs on this actuator many times .

I adjusted my factory arm and it ran oh so much better. the butt dyno read about 20whp on the top end. Someone on here did it and got 30whp just from adjusting the arm to hold closed longer

The link to the instructions are in the thread below:

The boost taper is caused because the turbo is small. It will still taper with the actuator adjusted.

19-24 PSI base spring pressure is standard, but a 14-18 PSI spring is optional.

The units are still manually adjustable like the stock units within the respective spring pressure range.

Due to the positioning of the wastegate flapper within the exhaust housing of the turbo, the exhaust gas pressure is directed staight against it, which can easily cause it to open prematurely thus limiting boost.

The housing is cast differently from the 8 and 9 turbos. On those exhaust housings, the flapper is positioned laterally to the exhaust gas flow, whereas on the X housings, it's more inline with the flow, so the problem is a little worse on the X's, so the benefits from the upgrade are more substantial.

Turbochargers.com saw substantial gains in their dyno testing on a modified OEM turbo. I'm afraid to post the results, though, for fear of being called a liar. ;-)

We're awaiting dynos on a few different cars with unmodified stock turbos.

We instantly saw a gain of almost 50whp on the soon to be released Artisan TA- which is a 35R compressor wheel and a td06 turbine wheel. We have held 30 psi on the stock turbine housing with this actuator at least 50 times with no issue.

On a stock evo we just did here the other day we picked 33whp with no controller.

This is by far the best bang for the buck on the market.
