Mivec engagement?

I have a fair idea of how a variable valve timing system works. Does this operate like the VTEC in hondas where the second cam engages at about 5000 rpm? This my first evo. I have a 350Z which used CVTCS. The reason i am asking this is that after about 5000 rpm, the engine sounds like its going bonkers much like when the over lap occured for those of you have driven a DOHC VTEC Civic SI. Or is it the growl of the intake or the fact that the turbo is so close to the driver side as opposed to in front of the engine.

The noise is not like a bad noise but I am like WTF.. its like everything goes into warp mode.. btw, its a JDM RHD EVO x

I have no intake or exhaust mods.

"the engine sounds like its going bonkers"

Define your "bonkers" sound

everything just sounds faster and louder... if you have driven any honda with a DOHC VTEC, you would know the sound i am talking about.
