Perrin Panel Filter
Perrin Panel Filter
I have searched and found plenty of info on Works, K&N, and HKS. I can't seem to find much on the Perrin one though. Does anyone have this filter, its a foam filter so I am curious about its filtering properties. The only other foam filter I know of is HKS and a lot of people say that doesn't filter very well. So far I can get the Ralliart for 100, Works for 100, K&N for 50, or Perrin for 50. Trying to decide which one to get, Works had a glue issue at one point, K&N and Works both are oil based which can cause MAF issues, and Ralliart is disposable after 30K apparently. <- Lots of searching ahhaha.

I used a K&N on my Nissan for over 100k miles, and 15k so far on my Evo. If you oil the filter properly, you will not have MAF issues.
Now, with that being said, there has been a lot of research showing that pretty much any aftermarket oil-type air filter does not filter as well as the OEM type paper filters.
But that's pretty much a given, can't have more for nothin.... in this case, more flow and less filtration.

Nice thanks for the replies, I feel a little better about the oil based ones. Anyone know anything about Perrin? Pretty surprising I can't find much on their filter since they are pretty respected in the Evo circle.
Yeah I have the Perrin filter and their inlet hose both and I noticed a significant difference in how quickly the turbo spooled, thats mostly due to the inlet hose. I also noticed that the big puff of black smoke was cut down to. I really like the filter overall.

The Ralliart is a dry cotton filter. I have it on my car and it works fine. On the local Mustang dyno, it added 10awhp over stock by leaning out the AFR a bit. Kinda expensive though.
Some other non-oiled drop in filters you might want to consider is the Blitz LM (dry cotton) and the Cosworth (synthetic dry filter).

Sorry to say this but the Perrin panel filter does not fit well at all on the car. I'm pretty sure some of you that installed it missed the 2 plastic clips on the bottom of the air box. The only way I get the Perrin Panel Filter to fit in the airbox is to leave the bottom left clip unclipped. If the bottom are clipped, then the top clips wont close. I've tried almost everything, I was even trying to take off some of the foam around the border because I thought that was what got in the way. But no matter what I did the air box wont close properly.
I have the perrin panel filter and it fit fine. It gives the open air filter sound also. Its alil larger then most but i got it in without missing clips and what not. Snug tight and tuned
You are absolutely sure the bottom 2 clips are in? I can almost guarantee you that they are not. Its tight and snug even without the 2 clips in, but it just doesnt feel right knowing that its not closed properly.
