FMIC or downpipe?
there is way too much misinformation in this thread.
FMIC- It does yeild power on the X because of its increased flow rate, every vendor has shown this.
o2 down pipe- It does yeild power. The downpipe on the otherhand does not, the down pipe on a Evo X is strait piece of tube that is about 2.5-2.75 inches in diameter, it flows very well stock. The area that does not flow well in the stock form is the o2 housing. Manufactures have found it is not cost effective to produce JUST a o2 housing and instead offer the "O2 Housing Downpipes".
Buschurs tests did not yeild results because they tried to use a Evo X Mr as its test platform. As a result the SST tranny and its more advanced computer may have negated any results that could have been shown, it is up in the air as to weather or not the MRs computer adjusted its torque output because of the tranny.
Both these parts will make power. It all depends if you want a pain in the *** install or an easy install. SIMPLE AS THAT.

How does a FMIC make more power?
Your next mod on the list should without a doubt be the downpipe. On a hot day you might see the benefit of an upgraded FMIC but there's simply no point at this level. Right now you're getting the most restriction from your stock downpipe.
An upgraded FMIC is almost last on the list before you upgrade your turbo. Many more mods make better sense long before the FMIC.
That's just my 2 cents...

There is almost no restriction in the stock downpipe at stock boost levels, its got minimal bends and a good diameter. As it's been said, the bottle neck is the O2 housing.
On the X, a FMIC in my opinion should be one of the first supporting mods since the stock FMIC doesn't flow that well just adding mods that increase horsepower won't be as beneficial running a stock FMIC because the added heat from more boost won't yield as much hp as it would with a cooler air temp coming in.
I've got the Buschur and would recommnd it but any of the other quality cores would be a great choice as well over the stock unit. ~Trent

Relatively same mods as the threadstarter, and a 30whp gain without a tune.

I would base my next mod on what you have done already. If you have the cat-back, go ahead and get the test pipe, and the o2/dp combo to finish it off. If you have already purchased IC piping, go ahead and get the FMIC. Finish off where you are at this point, and move from there.
Those are some thick rows, looks like a great fmic. What is the pressure drop on it?

With regards to the DP install, it's less a matter of how long vs how difficult and how much profanity will be involved while trying to do it. If I had to guess probably 3-4hrs vs the FMIC which is maybe 1-2hrs but a lot less bleeding of the hands from the unavoidable fights with heatshields etc.
