Drop-in Filter, BOV sound
Drop-in Filter, BOV sound
Before anyone cringes and starts going nuts over the search function I should let you know I've already searched. This isn't a question but more like a comment/review.
I've seen a couple of threads as I've been doing my search on what are good starting mods and what not. More specifically I've seen quite a few threads with the whole "What BOV should I buy to get the woosh sound!"
To repeat what many have said before, the stock BOV is extremely good and will be great if you're doing just bolt-on mods. You really will not need to swap it out until you're doing heavy tuning and/or are dropping some serious modifications on your car.
In regards to the drop-in, I recently installed a K&N Drop-in filter on my car. I did not get a dyno, but the car is definitely breathing better. An interesting turn out to the installation of the Drop-in is that the BOV is very audible now as is the turbo as it spools. You won't hear it over your music, but you'll know you have it now.
The K&N installation, again, was easy and smooth. Common complaints about it is that it is an oiled filter and it has been know to rarely affect the MAF sensor. So far I've had no issues. Good things about the K&N is the build quality, price, and availability. K&N has quality stuff (lifetime warranty), the price is around $40-60 maybe cheaper (Much less than Works). Lastly, Autozone is a registered K&N distributor so a lot of Autozones have it in-stock, so you just drive up and leave with it. No shipping headaches.
Works has a dry filter though, some people prefer that (I'm not knocking it, I just wanted something cheaper). Another common one is the Greddy foam filter. You'll find the Greddy drop-in cheaper than the K&N online, but it will not last as long. I think you need to change it out roughly every oil change or so. There are a couple more out there so I'm hoping everyone will chip in some opinions and experience.
Hopefully this will pop up during searches and it will end there!
Happy modding!
