If anyone can figure out the sizes of the compressor wheel and exhaust turbine used it would help compare this to other turbos out there. The car they installed this on is built up quite a bit but it seems to be a nice upgrade none the less.

Same 82mm compressor as a GT35 and same turbine wheel, but the turbine wheel is cut down from 68mm to 64mm.

Ah wow, so pretty big turbo then!

The GT3076r is 76mm compressor and 60mm turbine, about as big as I wanted to go. This HKS turbo may be about as big as you want to go for a road course car, although I've seen people use GT35r turbos out there with the right supporting mods. Just need to plan ahead a little on the spoolup or stay in higher RPM ranges.

STOCK EVO X TD05H Turbo:
Compressor: 12 blade (6 full/6 splitter), 68mm diameter, 48 Trim
Turbine: 12 blade, 56mm,76Trim
Turbine Housing A/R: 10.5cm^2
Wastegate Actuator Open Pressure: 11psi

GARRETT EVO X GT3071/GT3076 Turbo:
Compressors: 12 blade (6full/6splitter), GT3071 71mm/56 trim & GT3076 76.2mm/56 trim
Turbine: 10 blade, 60mm, 84 trim
Turbine Housing A/R: 0.73A/R or optional 0.94A/R
Stock Wastegate Actuator Open Pressure: 17psi

All the serious road race cars currently competing are using 35R ish turbos right now, with a 2.3 there is no waiting for power.

Hi all , these GT3240's are a bit different to most of Garrett's GT25BB center section based turbos - well cartridges anyway .

The difference is in the wheels notably the turbine side . I think what they've done is crop a std GT35UHP turbine down to approximately GT32 turbine sized dimensions - hence "GT32" but retained the usual 84 trim size that most GT30 and GT35 turbines have .
Turbine housing wise in the past HKS only offered one for this cartridge and it was a T25/28 flanged GT30 based housing in 0.87 A/R ratio , ext gate type only .

I don't see any reason why any of their GT30 based turbine housings couldn't be profile machined to take this critters turbine but don't take my word for it .
For I suppose response reasons this time they've chosen the next size down 0.73 A/R housing for the Evo 10 .

I couldn't see their adapter close up but I gather they've taken the opportunity to have the external wastegate's mount there which as has been suggested saves R&D time and money and allows the best use of existing parts - turbine housing and exhaust manifold .

As for the compressor wheel , yes I think it is the same BCCW-18 or 82mm GT40 family compressor wheel as the GT3582R's compressor only this time it's in 54 rather than 56 trim .

A few years ago I tried hard to get cartridge details on this unit and the best I could come up with is CHRA number 707503-10 . The details came from someone in the States that was running one , from memory , on an earlier Evo Lancer .

As a side note it is possible that the HKS spec GT3240 came before the Garrett marketed GT3540R/GT3582R , many of Garrett's (available through Garrett) cartridges are quite similar to the HKS ones but slightly different on trims and the occasional turbine mods .
I am told that HKS has a technology tie up with Garrett and they have exclusive rights to that cartridge combination for something like six years . After that , I think due to anti monopoly laws , the gloves are off and Garrett are fee to sell to the open market .
Given the age of this cartridge it may very well be available to anyone who has its CHRA number - BTW when they turn up someone needs to cross reference the ID tag on them to confirm that it hasn't changed .

Lastly like a "GT2835" is really a modified GT3071R , the original "GT3240R" is really a modified GT3582R .
Also just in case you're wondering the 40 and 82mm mean the same thing compressor wise . Garrett's numbering system changed a while back and now the compressor side is referenced around its compressor major (OD) rather that its wheel family .

Cheers A .
