Question Clutch/Brake Pedal Rubber Pads

Hi everyone! I am the proud new owner of a Graphite Gray GSR. Sam at SCM took good care of me and I recommend him to anyone looking for a Mitsu (shameless plug, you're welcome Sam).

I picked up the car at night and the next morning noticed some issues. South Coast was very good about warrantying some blemished items on my car, however the rubber pad on the clutch pedal was torn and falling off after 1200 miles of driving. According to Mitsubishi, this is a wear and tear item and will not be replaced. I understand there are different styles for pushing the clutch pedal (floating vs heel down), but did Mitsubishi really think that the pads on these pedals would stand up to any sort of real world use?

I've done more than a few searches trying to find posts pertaining to this issue to no avail. Maybe I am not using the proper keywords, but I have found nothing. Does anyone know the part number for the pedal pads? Or better yet a solution, either aftermarket or MacGyver-ish, that will prolong the life of the pedal? It is a sad site that the only thing damaged on my car since the day she left the lot is the clutch pedal. Everytime I get in the car I want to kick the guy at Mitsu who designed it in the face (The rest of the guys did an amazing job). My STi had 60k and the rubber on the pedals was lightly worn (Flamesuit on!) and not falling off onto my carpet in pieces. Any help is greatly appreciated, and I want to say thank you for the wealth of information I have already found in the community here.

P.S. This is the account of a good friend I help with his car. When I pick a suitable name you will see me around under a new login. I have full permission to use this account as he was helping me secure the car from Sam.

We are definitely not alone. I forgot to mention, a couple of the X's that came in for service while I was waiting for them to reflash mine were exhibiting the same problem. It's very easy to see the rubber piece that gets destroyed when the door is open and you glance in at the pedal area. Oh well, I am enjoying the car more every day and this issue isn't causing me to change that in any way other than being more gentle with the clutch pedal while at the same time babying the clutch as much as possible.

Yeah my clutch pedal is fall apart after 3300 miles. Pretty cheap if you as me. But I slip off the clutch pedal, so it will be better once the rubber is gone.

This is odd. My brothers 08 GTS has 40k on it. All look fine.

I know its an old thread but at 7,500 miles mine still have 90% life left. I wonder if it has something to do with what type of shoes you wear. I always wear pumas.

holy thread resurrection lol.. found this thread while searching for reports of similar issues...

Just noticed mine coming apart slightly after just 2k miles. It's the left most rubber pad on the clutch pedal. Others all look fine. Wonder if I should bother talk to the dealer at all...
