Well I just got back from the dealership to tried them to diagnose my problem. I took one of the techs for a test drive and he heard the sound. He said it's probably normal, but he replaced my tranny fluid anyways just incase. I still noticed the problem when I drove home, so I guess it's probably no big deal. And like you guys all say, it's under warranty so no worries haha! And I scored new tranny fluid as well, lol.

There are two noises that are prominent on the Evo X. The whining/siren sounding noise that goes up and down with the throttle is the power steering pump. If you listen to it you it after reading this you will be able to tell that it sounds similar to when you've heard steering pumps before, like when the fluid is low or the wheel is turned all teh way one direction. It's a totally normal sound.

The other "whistling" sound that kind of sounds like a turbo, but louder, is the drivetrain... it goes away after the car warms up. I believe it is the transfer case or front diff. It's a normal sound too, you can't even really hear the turbo on a stock car unless you have a fine tuned ear. If you can, you will notice that the turbo whistle is way higher pitched, quieter, and seperate from the drivetrain "whistle" sound.

Your ride is normal man... I had the same concerns when I first had my car, they're all normal noises. I am guessing that you like myself have never had an AWD car before...

The power steering pump? That's what that is? I have been trying to figure out what that sound was for the longest time! LOL

I can only hear it when I press on the throttle up to about 3500rpms then the sound of the motor drowns it out. Happens in every gear and in neutral too. I hate that sound! LOL

I like the drive train and the spooling of turbo but that constant whining gets to me.

Thank you for the info.

I have just recently noticed the same sound ,Almost sounds like a second turbo with a deeper sound as you give it throttle it accelerates and when you let off it decelerates also when you push the clutch in, I have 15,000 miles and it just started doing it after a 60 mile nonstop trip on the e-way may be time to change the trans oil ,as they call for the fluids to be changed at 15,000 now not 30,000 TSB revision just to be on the safe side . Hope the preload on the diff bearings isn't failing .

My GSR whines as well, i've only had it for about a month, with 800 miles on it. I'm pretty sure it's normal. My car whines a little bit when I start it up, and it continues to whine for the first couple miles, but then it goes away after some driving.

The dealer found the whining noise on my X. It was coming from the mid-drive shaft bearing so the entire driveshaft assembly was replaced ...under warranty of course

My X whines similar to it was on reverse but its only for first gear and rest of the gears sound fine. This sound started happening after i brought it to the dealer for a oil change and the recall for the fuel return line.

My car has only 4900 miles on it. Going to the dealer and have a tech to listen to it after lunch. Will keep you guys posted.

So I just got back from the dealer, guess what the tech said? The sound isn't identifiable and they can't do anything about it until it gets worst or breaks.

This sux because i feel like my car is on the line of breaking anytime. =\
