Strange sound while driving?

Hey, I kno this isn't the faq section, but i figured it was a possible engine or drivetrain problem so it could still apply to this section.

I notice that when i first start up my car (its an evo X) it sounds normal, but after i drive it for a while, i usually notice a kind of whining sound. has anyone else noticed a trend like this, or is there something wrong with my car?

any advice or tips are greatly appreciated

mods, if this is inappropriate for this section, i apologize ahead of time

Is your car stock? It could just be the turbo spooling?

Or is it a whistling sound? I know that when I have the A/C set on kinda high the passenger vents whistle sometimes cause I close them (pretty annoying to)

oh, and one other thing. i think (but im not sure) that i first started noticing the sound after i went over a large pothole. could it be an alignment problem? i didnt think it was an alignment problem because the sound only seems to be there as long as i am actively gassing. once i take my foot off the gas and put the car in neutral and coast, the sound goes away. any ideas?

Sounds like turbo spool to me if it's when you accelerate.

Gear whine in the transmission and xfer case. Mine does it too. I'm not sure if it's going out or not. Is it only when you have the foot on the gas? Mine goes away when I take my foot off the gas.

Mine whines a little too. I think its just the drivetrain. Never launched it or anything and the car only has 4k miles on it so I think its normal.

Sounds just like what mine does. I see no sense in having the dealership look at it since they won't warranty anything drivetrain related on my car.

An evo tech listened to it and said it's ok. And I compared it to a death whine VIII and it's not the same (those whine all the time, gas on or off).

If you're concerned (and you are since you posted), take it to the dealer and see what they say. Post the results

^thanks man. i feel a little better since im not the only one hearing this. when i go in for an oil change i'll probably ask them to take a quick look. the only problem is the dealership near me is not the greatest about attention to detail or customer satisfaction, but ill manage

Dont worry if it whines a bit when you start your car and drive off. Now if it kept whining then that would be a different scenario..

I rolled 19k miles this weekend. Who knows how long it's been doing (and how many autocrosses and track days).
