Bent Shift Rail
A little while ago, I was locked out of reverse completely. The car grinded into reverse when it was cold and sometimes was locked out of reverse. I then went on a road rally (Royal Flush Poker Rally: Autism) and my reverse was completely locked out at the end of the 4th leg. The car could not engage in reverse. I had the dealer look at it. They took out the trans and found out it was a bent shifter rail which caused the lockout for reverse. Everything was replaced under warranty. I asked some people how the shifter rail bends and many say its because of shifting too hard. Any thoughts or explanations of this situation? I got the car back, my parts are all on. If theres something I'm doing wrong with this X, I would like to correct it before this issue occurs again. Ive driven other manual cars before and this never happened. Thanks for the knowledgeable input in advance.

I figured it was user error. I did try to force it into reverse a few times when it didnt go before the shift rail bent. Also, going from 4th to 5th seems like a stretch. I feel like I may grind going into fifth. I am positive that the clutch is completely depressed before shifting. After they replaced the shift rail, it became pretty smooth. It's even smoother than when I drove it off the lot.
I'm curious is theres just a separate shift rail for reverse. If there's a separate shift rail for reverse, then it must been that the only way it would break or bend is shifting into reverse aggressively and not necessarily another gear.
