Manual boost control on MR

Now i have read lots of different things about MR's and how they don't like manual boost controls. I have installed a manual boost control on my MR and set it to peak at 26. I always drive it in manual/sport mode. (and i mean always.. never used it in D so far). I have not noticed any ill effects or shaking etc. The car just pulls better and so far no CEL no spike whatsoever. Is it me missing something or is it only because i just treat it like a manual transmission? Any ideas/experience?

It is a Joe P (cheapest one you can find) manual boost controller. However it works wonderful (IMO). The car is not tuned. Waiting to install the turboback...

better to be tuned with a boost controller. At least tell me you have a boost guage and/or a a/f guage. Otherwise you have no way of telling what you are truely boosting or how lean your car is running.

Note: I have a perrin MBC and a forge wga neither or which are going on the car until this upcoming weekend so I can get tuned for them.

Please dont get offended. I am not calling you one. Is your car, you can do what you want with it. Just be aware, i think most 4b11 that have gotten the death penalty were in a very similar situation to yours. Best of luck.

P.S. Boost does not mean anything, you should really be monitoring your AFR's.

None taken. I genuinely want to learn about this that is why i am asking. I may pull it out and wait to get a tune if that is the case. I would hope ECU would give an overboost or some other signal before blowing up the whole engine though. I also wonder if it is better to have the ECU take care of it through a tune instead of doing manual....or is it better to do the pill mode with a tune only? along with WGA..Any ideas..i get the feeling there isn't much experience with MR boost control out there..

The safest way is to let the ECU or at least get a EBC(also with a tune) to handle it.

If you have 5k to 7k that you dont mind using for a new motor have fun and learn. We all do it sooner or later .

But my honest reply is, take it off. Dont risk it, is not worth it. Get it tuned and bring the boost controller with you so they can tune it for you. And get and AFR gauge.

Best of luck.
