Tranny whining.
Tranny whining.
Hey guys I have read all the terrible post about peoples pins shearing off in the diff. Just this morning I notice a annoying whining that sounds like it is coming from the tranny. When I push the clutch in the whining disappears. The car is mildly modified with an AEM intake, full exhaust and a Cobb AP with an OTS map installed. I do not, repeat do not beat this car and I have never done any sort of launching with it either. The car has approx 11k on it. Could it really possibly be these pins that everyone is talking about? Tonight, im going to de-mod the car and take it to the dealer. Any thoughts?
There's a thread on this. From what I can remember, if you're getting a whining gear noise anywhere from gears 1-4 as you're decelerating with your foot off the gas, it's normal.
I have this type of "whining" sound in 1st and 2nd gear coming to a stop until I depress the clutch.
That sucks that you're planning on de-modding your X for a trip to the dealership... I try to avoid them at all costs... Good luck.
Hope this helps at least a little bit.

Apex Silver, I know the whine you are talking about and yea that is normal. This whine is when im excelerating and is present in all gear. The higher the gear the more distinct it is.
I have since completely returned everything to stock with the exception of the lowering springs. Im going to make an apt this morning, hopefully I can get it in today. Ill keep everyone posted.

I have never heard a TOB sounding like this. This is a distinct gear sound. Kinda like a gear drive on a small block except less distinct and quieter.

Check it out, and keep up posted. If they fix yours, I'll tell my friend to take his in too!
ouch... never heard a whining sound during acceleration.
A kid I know with a 3000gt had that kind of whining gear noise and it was his transfer case. Almost sounded like a supercharger because it would only get louder and more high pitched with added speed. Good luck man.

Ok, so I went to the dealer, and guess what? I could not get the car to duplicate the sound the tranny was making earlier. This is pretty typical of my luck. My dealer was very nice about things and suggested I may want to try a better tranny fluid. I guess I will just drive it till the sound becomes louder, haha.
