Question Shifting bushing differences?

Ok so reading up on short shifters and opened a new can of worms lol. I seen and heard about changing out the bushings but then I read about 3 different places. So I was hoping for some knowledge to be parted please.

I know the 4 base shifter bushing do and go, but what does the, 5 Speed Gate Selector Bushing Kit do? also Under Hood Shifter Bushings, im lost on these as well. Sorry Im an engine mechanic on F-15s with not a lot of knowledge on car mechanic stuff. Just looking to get info thanks!

Basically what all the different bushings achieve is to give a more precise and direct feeling to the shifter. The stock bushings are made of rubber so they flex when the shifter and shifter cables are moving. This flex is directly transmitted on the shifter, giving a "mushy", unprecise shift feeling. When replacing the stock bushings for solid metal bushings, this unwanted flex is removed, giving a very solid and precise feeling to the shifter.

We do manufacture the aluminum base bushings, and we are currently working on the underhood cable bushings (actually, we are working on an Evo X for those bushings today!). Both these bushing kits are a great addition to give the car the sportier feeling it deserves.

It's well worth it in my opinion. Makes a huge difference for a small amount of money. As for how they fair in Auto X, I can't comment on that since I have never autox'ed before. I have done full circuit lapping with my turbo civic with our short shifter and I love it...I can say that much

This all personel at best, but for me the bushings are a minimal upgrade; the shifter base bushing replacement are really not needed with the car being new; when installing the short shifter, I tried to move the base with the OEM bushings and it was solid as a rock. Yes over time they will soften up with use but to replace them w/o installing a short shifter is not worth it. As far as the bushing under the hood, the ease of shifting was improved slightly. For $35 or so, replacing them is marginal. Save up for the short shifter which a definite improvement.

Later, Ken

my review on different parts.

base bushings take out the slop that the rubber bushings had and they secure the shifter assy to the rest of the car.

underhood bushings take out the slop in shift cables (transmission side)

gate selector bushing replaces a plastic unit and that assy is on the transmission, helps with the shift feel for good 2-3, 4-5 shifts, basically the up down movement.
