Thumbs down 4B11T rod failure

28 psi 400 hp no ringland/piston failure, just soft rods, bore is a mess

So how are others getting away with so much more? I've read of many with more power on stock bottom end, huh?

Were you logging? Could this be the result of knock in anyway?

Was this 400hp at the wheels?

Ouch! Game Over for that Rod!

How much WHP were you making? Sad shame...Looks like its time for Manley Rods!

I am sorry to hear about that. It seems odd.

His sig says 395.5 Bhp, so maybe 350 whp.

Correct it's flywheel hp, but it's UK BHP so our figures aren't exactly comparable
Not logging, I know I was on the lean side, but not dangerously so, it was booked in tomorrow to have the fueling sorted with a walbro and a map tweak Now I'm in a world of hurt

Yeah, I know but that doesn't make sense really UNLESS he was knocking....So without proof I'm attributing this to knock...

Most of the failures that I've seen were tune-related. The learning curve for tuners involves blown engines...

Bent rod versus a rod that gets kicked out the block like the VIII and IX is interesting. Tells me the metallurgy has changed some and is now more like a Honda or 1G DSM. Bending a rod is relative to cylinder pressue.

This is expressed normally as torque of course and in the 4G63 is typically around 400 ft lbs as a safe limit. I am curious Mark what fuel this was on? There is no sign of detonation so I am thinking it was probably pretty good. Any methanol injection? I am wondering if you were past MBT and didnt know it (or your tuner didnt) and the rod failed from that or this was a fluke however unfortunate.

We have been around stock bottom Xs that have made far more torque and not failed so its curious as to why this happened this way.

Yeah, this is quite curious. Don't really see much signs of detonation on the top of the piston.

how did you find this out? were there engine noises? did you also check the crank to see if there is any crank damage? Was also wondering about meth. Were you on stock turbo?

Shows the symptoms of a hydrolocked engine.
