E85 vs 95 octane pump/race gas mix.

Does anyone know if 95 octane (1 gal of race + 11 gal 93 pump) would perform just as good as E85? I ask because I don't have E85 near by but I always have race gas on hand for my other toys and I would like to make more power like the E85 guys.

I just read an article that said E85 is usually called 105 octane but they said that is actually incorrect and the real octane rating is 94-96 depending on the time of year.

Actually true E85 is like 110 and has loads of other qualities that make it awesome.

E70 is closer to 105 octane.

So the answer to your question...no, your 1 gal of race gas will be no where near as good as E85.

Even straight race gas will probably not make as much power unless you use the best stuff.

I ran a pump gas/race gas mix for a bit and will never do it again. It's expensive, annoying, unnecessary if e-85 is an option and the after effects were less than awesome.

The previous owner of my X told me that my car is tuned for a 20% E85 / 80% 93 Octane fuel mixture. I'd never heard of mixing Unleaded Gas and E85 before. Is it safe???

how much ethanol are in your pump gas already? Over here I believe its up to 10%

Maybe your place is more of like 15-18%?

116 Octane race gas straight doesnt work as well as e85 so your pump gas blend definitely will not either..

never heard of mixing 20% ethanol unless thats what the station is coming with. over her on the east coast its 10% ethanol for 93.

but to re-iterate, no your mixture will not perform any where as close to straight e85, although it will smell nice (straight race)

MS109 race fuel does not make as much power as E85.

There is a good testament right there to the performance of E-85.

That should say for Evo's or other high cylinder pressure vehicles. On a stock corvette or something it can hurt performance. It's very relative.

Thats correct on a stock anything it can hurt performance as it leans the car out a lot.. however cars that are bone stock that run very rich from the factory see good gains with a 30% e85 mix with pump..
