HKS 50003-M45XL worth it?

Hey guys,

For those of you using the 50003-M45XL plugs, can you guys attest to their ability to reduce the small knock counts you've seen?

I'm trying to determine if spending $100 on plugs is really worth it.

Does it allow for a more aggressive tune?

I noticed my phantom knock went away in the upper rpms. I know it was phantom because I used my electric det cans. Before I would get small knock counts of 4-6. Now once in a while I will get 1-2 counts. Fact is that turbo cars knock. But, I seen these plugs do a good job. Overall, I think they are worth it. Make sure they are gapped to .022 since they come gapped to .029 and they will misfire if you use that gap, I know because I tried.

I know you are very familiar with my intentions here, and I am getting 6-8 counts around 7000-7500 at 11.2 and timing of 18 or so, I believe these plugs will help, but don't want to waste $100 on it if they won't help.

You and I both know where I would rather spend that $100

Just to clarify, misfires (as in you felt the stuttering) or was it knock?

When I switched to the HKS 45's my misfire / up top knock both went away.
I believe with the addition of over 100 extra horsepower the stock plugs retained too much heat and caused issues with pre det.

I'm thinking they would help me as well, just wanted to be sure, thanks.

I agree with this... but only for 93 octane. E85 runs cooler, thus the stockers should be fine.

Misfires per the check engine light code.

I'm getting anywhere from 3-14 counts of knock at 7200-7500 at 11.2 AF and 18deg timing target (timing actually drops due to knock) and load of ~230.

The knock is inconsistent, meaning it's almost always there but sometimes it's 14counts and others it's 5-6, and still others it's 8-10.

I verified FMIC is not heatsoaking during this either. I may be forced to get these plugs

Keep in mind the Green acts like the stock turbo to a point. To get the most usable reliable power out of it you have to taper the boost off after 7000rpm and increase the timing to make the most power. Try that before switching plugs and use Virtual Dyno to confirm.

Yeah, but what gets me is that the knock is not conistent. Also, I'm pretty sure Kris is able to hold 27psi or so to redline on the Green, with minimal or no knock. I'm only at 23 or so.

Update, I should have these plugs in a couple weeks. I'll find out for sure if my knock is caused by the plugs.

By taper he means down to like 24-25psi.

However, on my own car I found that running 27 psi til redline gave me better results on VDR. However, its easy to flip back and forth between maps with the Tephra Mods.

To each their own, as long as the car is making excellent power.

Granted I found these cars like when you add more timing and make them leaner
