this is completely false.

the only fuel that will potentially wreck an O2 sensor is leaded race gas.

I know from experience that burning oil will also do them in. I'm running open loop for now, for that reason.

I should have said "in an otherwise mechanically sound and properly tuned car" :P

hope the oil thing was nothing serious...

I'm not, I want to replace my front O2 sensor (the one that controls fuel/air ratios). My car has about 160 000 kms.

So do you know how to access the plug for it? I followed the wire .. but it goes into the car somehow...

I just had mine out so I'm pretty familiar with this. The FRONT O2 sensor runs up the top left corner of the passenger foot well , and then under the dash in the center console area. Basically you have to pull off the trim in the foot well on both sides (the left side requires removal of the entire center console), and pull the carpet up. Then you will see some styrofoam stuff, pull that back too. There you will see the grommet with the wire coming up through, follow the wire to where it goes underneath the dash, if you pull away a little but of the sound deadening cloth underneath the dash, you'll see where the connector is. It's fairly easy to get to. The rear o2 sensor connects underneath the passenger seat. Hope this helps.
