having hard time shifting

She has about 260 miles. I am having very hard time to putting it in to 1st, 2nd and reverse.

When the car is cold it is even worse which is understandable but even if after driving around for a while I almost need to force it to shift into the first gear.

And the worst part is after taking off I cant sometimes shift to 2nd gear. Sit there and struggle in the traffic...

This is really annoying, I knew EVOs have crappy transmission but geez this bad?

What could be the problem?

Take it back to the dealership and have them check it out. That sounds worse than usual and may just need some adjustment.

If they claim its "normal" then get some Redline tranny fluid, remove the clutch restrictor pill, get a full set of shifter bushings, and possibly a short-shifter too if you'd like. These things made a huge improvement on my car. I installed them all before even hitting 1,500 miles.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am kinda scared that there is something serious going on...

Yeah I will take it today see if they can take a look at it.

BTW, where is clutch restrictor pill is located?

To be completely honest, that sounds a lot like mine was. It wasn't just a minor thing. I felt it at all almost all times. After 22XXX miles, fluid change, and short shifter, it's a lot better, but can still be a pain occasionally. I would still definitely have it checked if you're concerned though. I kinda wish I had just to put my mind at ease early on, but it's probably all fine. I think some of them are just a little more finnicky than others. Hope yours is good to go!

When you can't put it in reverse, do you try to put it in third then fourth and then try revere again? That helps me everytime.

this happens occasionally for me as well. usually if its a slight incline, if u let it roll a little it should glide right in. sucks that we paid over 30k for a car that still has these issues

Every once in a while, my reverse doesn't like to engage. If I engage a forward gear and let the clutch out until the friction point, I can then shift to reverse easily. Doesn't solve your problem for 1 thru 5 tho.

Perhaps double-clutching would help?

Yeah, I know right. Well Mitsubishi's defense is bushings are too "stiff" and need to break in...

I was already used to this from my Integra, it happens on a lot of trannys. Happened to me on my first day with my X, and I immediately put it in first, let the clutch out, and it went into reverse like a glove.

Dunno what it is that causes it.
