Question EvoX Clutch fork broken...

Hi,

Two years ago I burnt my clutch after multiple consecutive launches. I had it replaced and took the opportunity to upgrade to an ACT Xtreme XT Clutch Kit (ME1-XTSS). Last week, my clutch fork broke. Of course my dealer will not cover it under warranty because of my aftermarket clutch. My question is have any of you had the fork brake because of your modified clutch? Are there any alternatives to the stock clutch fork? Because now I am forced to replace it but wouldn’t want the same thing to happen in another few years if the stocker is just too weak.

The other thing I am wondering is if the fork should have been replaced during the initial clutch replacement two years ago. Could the breakage be due to the fork becoming brittle after enduring the high temperatures caused by launching the car?

Thanks
Willow

Forks should not be breaking and generally are not replaced during a clutch change. My guess is that ACT Xtreme pressure plate is just too damn heavy.

Yeah, do you really need the XTREME?

Probably not, but I bought it 2 years ago. What do you suggest?

- Keep this Clutch but changing the Pressure Plate ? Which one should I buy?

- Back with a stock Clutch, buy a new one (pressure plate, disc, bearing,...) ?

- Just replace the fork and hope it not break again ?

- Any other suggestion ?

Thanks,
Willow

Replace the fork and get an ACT HD pressure plate instead. Might as well get a new clutch disc while you're in there since they're cheap.

Also, for now my CMC is good, but do I have to change it too ? Or there is no problem with the ACT HD Pressure plate ?

If your CMC has taken the abuse of the Xtreme then the HD won't be a problem (HD is ~300 lbs. lighter).

i run a ACT 6 puck with the HD pressure plate. I have 5k miles on the clutch and still on OEM CMC. I have a Mangus in the garage for just in case. I drive rather spirited.

ACT HD with street disk is likely fine for 450-500 crank HP, and the HD coupled with the 6 puck will easily hold another 100 more. So far my 6 puck setup lasted 45k but I'm now going with an Exedy twin before next season as a preventative measure.

The clutch fork seems like an odd thing to break, although if you abuse the car on launches it's hard to predict how things will break. The stock clutch fork should be fine with a less aggressive pressure plate.

So I just had this happen to me and no shop that I have talk to, ETS, English racing, Shep Trans and even local Mitsu tech have never encountered this problem running Exedy Stage 1 HD and the fork prongs sheered of clean, any one else encounter this or may know of a potential cause?
