2008 EVO X MR, 69k - Broken Connecting Rod #1
sucks this happened, but for those saying mitsu should have paid for better rods... why? almost no one has blown at stock power. The OP had well above stock power. Mitsu built the engine for the stock HP, its not their job to cater to the aftermarket tuners. They build one hell of a platform, the 4b11 is a brilliant engine and has known limitations. Yes, the op was below the standard, but he was simply unlucky. Sorry, this isn't mitsu's fault.
Now you're saying that it's not Mitsubishi's responsibility to make an engine that holds more than 1hp more than stock? I think you're missing the reason that EVOs and DSMs were so popular for so long -- being extremely friendly to modification and making big horsepower numbers with relatively little investment.
With Mitsu turning their backs on their (only) good customers, and making products that aren't up to the same standards as previous generations they are putting themselves out of business.
Props to your dealer. Its rare to find one that good. They could easily tell you to take a hike.
Did the rod break in half/bend/or the bolts break? A lot of this can happen because of high rpm and/or poor lubrication . High RPM has very little to do with boost. If you have defeated your fuel cut, and had an inaccurate tach.. well it isnt as hard as you would think.

You must be new to the game. The 4g63 had been around since 1990, and people are/were making 500hp at the WHEELS with a bone stock block and race gas. Fast forward to the EVO IX, and it's quite common to be making 450-500whp on the stock block on pump gas without issue.

. Seems they are going to just put the evo down rather than keep building it for us, so nobody wins
Really? How much of that is relevant to the claim, except modifications? You're saying Mitsubishi officially profiles their customers to make official warranty claim decisions? I can't imagine that's actual protocol, although wouldn't be surprised it happens. Don't think OP ever insinuated Mitsubishi should be buying him a new engine, just voiced disappointment with their customer service.
HKS the World's leading Japanese aftermarket performance parts specialist is the principal supplier of engine components for the FQ-400 project.
This is the second thread I have seen this week where the OP thinks Mitsu should cover them when they blow an engine after modding the car?
Seriously... Have you actually read the warranty section of the manual?
You have to pay to play. That means paying to fix stuff when it brakes after playing with extra power.
Don't mod if you cant afford to fix it when stuff brakes.
That being said. I do feel for you. It's never a happy time when stuff brakes. Good luck with the rebuild.

I don't hang out on European forums. Do 'stock' FQ400s blow up and break stuff? If so then its probably covered under warranty and nobody goes onto forums to whine about it. They charge so much more for those cars that they can afford to cover more under the warranty...which would only be 36k miles, regardless. This car is beyond that.

the FQ400 isn't a stock block it has:
-Omega forged pistons
-HKS forged con rods.
