A couple things

Hey guys, I'm referencing this thread...

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...rking-bov.html

...for this post. My issue is kind of the same but slightly different. I have a few things I'm curious about. That don't pertain to just the sputter...

First things first, I'm driving cross country and I've already driven 2,000 miles. I've got another 1,000 to go. My car sputters and jerks after I let off the throttle and the cars not boosting. The best way to explain it is, it's most noticeable when I have the cruise control on and when I re-engage the cruise control the car gets up to speed, the RPM's stabilize, the turbo isn't spooling as hard, and then the engine sputters.

I called MAP and they gave me the great idea to check vacuum lines. I don't know why I didn't think of it, prob cause I'm not too bright... Anyway, When I got under the hood, I noticed that my air box (stock) was really dirty. So I checked the air box and I see the filter is loose. I pulled the box out and the underside hadn't been connected so the filter wasn't sealed properly. I'm pissed because the place I took it to for the oil change and "once over" before I took my trip, are clearly responsible since air filter was one of the things they checked. So I drove 2,000 miles with a improperly seated intake filter... great. I checked the area behind the filter and it was clean so hopefully no dirt or not too much dirt got in the crack.

I pulled the plugs but I don't know how much you can tell from them so I'm not sure what to think. Pictures below.

So I took it for a spin to check on the sputter. Highway is too far from my in-laws so I did a 3rd & 4th gear attempt to reproduce the sputter and couldn't so hopefully that was the fix.

The last thing is my BOV. I noticed some scratches on the brass piece. There's some black something or another embedded in the scrape marks. Oil? I dunno, any of you guys ever get this on your BOV or know what this might be?

Thanks guys

if that is a turbosmart Bov just unscrew the top, get a rubber mallat and pop out the peice that has the black marks. then you just get some light sand paper and scrub off the marks and put it back together. I had this same thing on my bov and it actually seized, i just did the above and it is like new.

Here's some links to help you read those plugs

If you were getting significantly more air than what the ECU is used to, that could explain the issue. Has gas mileage been down?
