Engine Coolant Temp value
Engine Coolant Temp value
I have logged a few Xs in the past 3 weeks, and notice mine consistently reads about 15 degrees lower than every other one I've logged. Any idea why this could be? If I am moving and cruising, it stays around 174 degrees. Of course it raises up when I stop and idle as expected.
Any information you have regarding your own ECT or things I could check to troubleshoot a possible issue would be appreciated. 08 GSR with 18k miles.
Thanks

I do remember that, but still was getting a variation with the other guys the past few days as they were all around 190 or so on my laptop. If you are good with it, I'm good with it. Thanks!
Thermostats can vary a bit from car to car, and possibly some come with lower temp ones while some aftermarket thermostats crack open at higher temps based on their crack temp and fully open temps.
My own car hovers at 170-175*F where as my friend's MR was hovering at 160-165*F and was hard to tune and got sigificantly worse fuel mileage. Then I swapped in a thermostat from Stant and his car now hovers at 185*-190*F which is at least the temp you will hit anyways on the road courses when the cooling system starts to heat soak. Tuning at this temp was better in that now the coolant was closer to what the car would see on the track after 10+ minutes. MPG also went up a bit and the odd trickle knock at 160*F is no longer an issue.
With a new X-line Mishimoto radiator that is twice the thickness as stock, the return pipe on the radiator is literally cool to the touch so the thermostat is regulating lots of reserve cooling capacity in the system.
