Which Turbo?
I'm sure this has been beaten to death, but I've searched and, although finding interesting reading, cannot find my exact answers. I'm looking to do a different turbo on my car and am wondering which would be the better to go with. I was going to do an FP RED but decided to do some more research. I'm not looking to change out my manifold yet, but will be porting it most likely. I have normal bolt-ons, TBE, intake, UICP, BOV and will be adding a FMIC, Injectors and Pump along with the turbo. I will be doing a double tune for 91 and E85. I was looking into the CBRD BBX now as well. Just wanting some input from others that have experience with different turbos and what I would be expecting with any of them and opinions on what would work best for me. It's pretty much a DD that just doesn't get driven everyday because I carpool and will hopefully be an Auto-X car if I get some time and maybe a road course car down the line if I get more money and time. So would like a good compromise of spool and power until I build my motor. These will be the last major motor mods until I build the motor. Wanting something that will keep me happy until then
I've got the BBX Lite and i think it's the perfect turbo for what you're looking for. It's great for auto-x and road courses because of the quick spool and torque. I'm making over 400 awhp on mine now and it rocks! Just my 2 cents. Good luck bro!

What's the difference between a Lite and a Full? Are those the only two options? What's the spool like compared to a RED and will I be able to pull the same amount of power compared? I don't even see an option for Lite on their website. Thanks for the opinion. I've heard so much about RED's but not much else and i'm the type of person that doesn't like to go mainstream, but like to have quality stuff still.
The BBX Full and Lite are both nice options-
I actually like the Lite the best- it uses a Billet Forged compressor wheel which is slightly smaller than the Full-
The Lite will spool faster (about 350rpm behind stock on the car i just did on friday here) and will make a big power increase-
the Full is a bit laggier but will make more peak power-
We have yet to make less than 400whp on the lite

I don't mind a little lag, the Evo is laggy anyway so have gotten used to it. I'm going to be doing an engine build in the next few years, probably a 2.2L to help with low end and make some more power, but I am looking for enough to make me happy until then. Is the lag in the full enough to make the lite a better option or vice versa, the extra power enough to make up for the lag and make it better? Any comparisons on pros/cons vs the RED for either? I've been reading as much as I can find on the two and any other options, but those two look like the main ones in the running.

if you are going 2.2 Id recommend the Full, it will make MEGA peak power..

While you're on the stock engine I would recommend the BBX Lite. I have the BBX Full but ended up building the bottom-end, porting the head, doing cams, and tubular exhaust manifold.
I love my BBX setup but on a 2.0 with a tubular manifold it was a little bit doggy until I did the motor and cams. On a stock ported manifold I'm sure it would be just dandy, but if you want a setup that is proven, the BBX Lite on the stock motor is 100% the way to go. Have CBRD port it for you and then do either CBRD's tubular manifold or MAP's short-runner manifold with ceramic coating and/or their 'california' edition that includes mounts for a stock heat shield. Bang for your buck on the stock engine with stock cams is fantastic, it is probably what I would do if I did it all over again, along with a big big FMIC from the get go.
Putting the right combo of parts together is key to making a setup work efficiently, so don't skimp! Get a nice o2-elim downpipe and big FMIC, etc.
If you do the 2.2 down the road, the BBX Lite will still be fantsatic and torquey, but if you do a 2.2, build the head at the same time, put in some S2's or Kelford 214-B (what I have) or -C cams and the torque will be freaking crazy awesome, especially on e85.

I'm def looking for a little more torque. I'm not expecting a lot considering it's a 4 cyl but figure there is more to be pulled out with the right setup. I'll have to look into the BBX Lite and the porting and the different manifolds you mentioned. If I do one of the mentioned manifolds will I need a new downpipe? Or does it put the turbo in the stock location still? I started out just wanting E85 and that turned into might as well throw a turbo on too, and now it just keeps growing!! Haha damn these cars, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Thanks for all the info guys, this is really helping.
For the stock block i'd go with the lite and cbrd tubular manifold, which is what i did. Reason being is you'll get more torque from the lite than the full. Once you go to the 2.2L i'd do the full because the larger displacement will get you the torque and the full will get you the peak power...best of both worlds!
I am completely satisfied with my 400awhp stock block bbx lite set up. The turbo is always building boost, even as low as 2500 rpm I have 7lbs of boost, making the X easy to drive on the street. I would also think the bbx lite is capable of propelling the X to 115mph or higher 1/4 mile trap speeds. I also had to make decisions at the time I upgraded the turbo. I met with Chad at cbrd with my mind already made up that I wanted the bbx full ported and 400awhp on Cbrd's heartbreaker mustang dyno. After talking with Chad it was suggested I go with the bbx lite non ported for the strong under the curve powerband, transient response and 400awhp goal. I also had the chance to ride in Chad's bbx lite equipped X. I listened to Chad's advice and went with the lite and couldn't be happier. My wife even enjoys driving the car.
So IMO I would go with the following
Stock block stock frame turbo
built block Cbrd 30rb/33rb turbo kit

I'm also still confused about where to go, I've pretty much ruled out a red, maybe green, 7640....which bbx on a built 2046cc motor, mx1s with full race manifold etc etc?
Peak torque as low as possible is important to me, what are the bbx turbos producing??

I'd stay away from the 7640 personally but it is also a very quick spooling turbo.
I guess from what I've seen, for what it sounds like you want, the BBX lite would prolly be the best choice.
