Angry Turbo area tapping noise

Alright guys, I've got a 2011 GSR with 18xx miles on it. Only mods are a defi boost gauge and a cosworth drop in panel filter. About 1k miles ago I started hearing this very distinctive tapping noise coming from what "appears" to be the turbo area/housing/rear of the engine bay. Totally freaked out by it bc, from what I can remember, it wasn't there when I brought the car home.

Can anybody tell me what this is? Hoping somebody has debunked this for just a backed out housing bolt or something else minor. I'm taking the car into mitsu Tuesday morning for an alignment and oil change and for them to take a look at this, but from everybodys take on the service there, I am not holding my breath on a quick fix.

Cold start and no tapping (not sure what that whirring sound is at the end, totally unable to hear that in person)...

and hot engine with the tapping...

Yeah, injectors are loud as hell, but they're easily distinguishable from the tapping sound.

I get the same noise at start-up. It goes away for me after a minute or two of warming up or just by driving very lightly until the engine is at proper operating temp.

Does your video represent a cold start-up?

If you take it in for inspection, let us know what you find.

No, mine only occurs when the engine is hot. The rattle/tap/clanging noise increases with rpms. Its metallic in sound like something is tapping the heat shield in sync with the fuel injectors cyclical firing.

i had the same noise at the track after a couple of heats, but it goes away once the engine cools down to normal operating temp. I have no idea what it is... at first I thought it was the clutch/flywheel, but I have a Spec clutch and a ACT flywheel, I'm assuming yours is stock? If yours is stock, the clutch/flywheel idea kinda goes out the window...

I also have a 2011

about 99% stock. drop-in air filter and a boost gauge is all i've done so far. only 1850 miles on the car as of today.

I have the Cosworth drop in as well... but I don't see how that could cause the knocking sound...

Have you taken off the heat shield and ran the motor to see if it may be easier to pin point the noise? Maybe a valve adjustment? Not likely since your car has such low mileage.

The heat shield is super easy to remove. I think there are 5 or so 10MM bolts to remove. You may also have to remove the tower bar as well. This should give you a better view of the suspect area.
