They're only (apparently) having issues with their 2.3 strokers and not their 2.2L big bores AMS uses, right?

I hate internet drama, you never get the whole story. I try to take these things with a grain of salt, that being said I do feel for you. That must really suck.

Yeah I'm really not sure the extra .1L would be worth all that hassle. Seems like the 2.2L setup that AMS has done is pretty reliable, so far my main sponsors car has held together quite well. The only issue was a slight oil leak around the timing cover and apparently it is a known issue that Mitsu has a TSB for that merely suggests to spackle it with extra RTV. Go Mitsu!

i think the 2L or the 2.2L is the best for the 4B11T. I wouldn't go any other route.
A good builder can do anything what you need in both configuration.

Yea, I've always wanted a 2.2L overbore, stroker has never been an option for me.

My stock motor after my FPred install had this problem. I was making 500whp and Mitsu still warrantied it, I felt good

They had to remove the water pump though so it took a while. And yes there is a TSB for it.

2.2L here now though, its the way to go on the 4b11t, you get to rev it like a stock motor essentially and more displacement, win win.

Also looking at my sleeves thickness I can see why AMS was thinking the 2.3L overbore didn't leave much for headgasket thickness...I would be worried.

http://api.viglink.com/api/click?for...Car%2520pix%2F This is the picks of my rotating assembly as we found it when tearing down my motor after 3500 miles. Not exactly what i would expect to see from pistons that have been run lean but once again i may be wrong.

too lean for too long does two things - melts pistons and causes detonation..

what do the rod bearings look like?

The reason I went 2.1L vs 2.2. Cobb and I didn't like the thickness of the 2.2 sleeves

look closer at the pistons the skirts are wore down bad enough from side loading that the they are smooth all the way from top to bottom look at the side pictures of the pistons and the wear on the bore of the block. The problem started from excessive oil consumption. From the begining i burned a qt of oil every 500/600 miles and when i tore it down it was blowing the dipstick and burning a quart every 150 miles
