Cold weather oil recommendations?

Hi all,
I was wondering what weight oil I should use in the coming months with fall and winter approaching? I have been running 3qts valvoline vr1 20w50 and 1.5 qts 10w30. I still have stock clearences. Also I am running an fp black, I know they have a list of oils I should use but not sure with colder temps as the car is outside and not garage kept.
Thanks!

Use amsoil 15-50 dominator racing oil. The 15w is perfect for colder months.

15W is NOT perfect for colder months.

Run a 5W-30 or 10W-30 at the thickest.

LOL. What are you talking about?
15w-50 isn't perfect even for summer months for cars with stock clearances. It's too thick oil. I just can't stand when someone recommends such oil for winter... Use it for built motors with loose clearances.
I use 5w-30 in winter.

+1. I ran 10w-30 with no problems in NY but usually people switch to a 5w with freezing temps.

a 15W50 is ok oil to use, little to think for most and myself, but with it being a racing oil it runs on the lower side of the viscocity range.

I see that you are running stock clearances, however your 2.0 engine is built, since you need high zinc and phos oil i would reccomend AMO 10W40 flows great in cold weather or the Z Rod 10W30, however i would opt for the Series 3000 5W30 diesles gas engine oil, either or have over 1300 PPM of zinc and phos which is not only good for the turbo and meet FP's specs but also for your engine internals and top end cams lobes, lifters ect..

I am glad an amsoil rep chimmed in right now I have 6 qts of the AMO 10W40 sitting in my closet and a whole case of the full synthetic 5w30. The builder/tuner said I shouldn't use it. Guess I'll add that to one of the many reasons why I'm looking for a new tuner. I think I will order the Zrod 10W30. I let my car warm up before taking off so I think I should be safe with the 10w30. Will I have to change the ZRod more frequently like I do the VR1 or can I get away with longer drain intervals?
And thanks for your responses everyone I really appreciate it!!!

Not an AMSOIL rep, i happen to own my own small business and sell AMSOIL products in general, i specialize in ASMOIL and synthetics.

You can run the Z Rod to 4500 miles, the AMO 10W40 can be ran to 7500,,, but remember this is dependant on how you run the car and what fuel power turbo ect..
