Downpipe question

I'm sorry if this topic has been beat to death; if anybody has a link to a thread that already discusses this, please point me in the right direction.

I saw a thread by AMS from like 2009 that proved that a downpipe does not make power gains. Obviously this theory has been busted since i now see that they make their own downpipe and a lot of people are buying them. How much power are you guys getting from a DP and how does it affect sound? And which one do yall suggest getting?
Also, what is the ETS 'recirculated 02 eliminator' downpipe, can someone please explain how this works? Does this get more power than other DP's?

One more question... is the stock DP 3 inches wide?

Sorry for the million questions and thanks in advance

The stock downpipe is about 2.4" or so. From the dyno testing I've done, 3" replacement downpipes DO show gains over the stock downpipe even on stock turbo cars. In that same breath, the o2 elim downpipes show no horsepower gains over 3" replacement downpipes, but do pick up some torque (with the stock turbo).

I recommend stock turbo cars get a simple 3" replacement downpipe while aftermarket turbo cars get a full o2 elim dp.

There is a difference between the downpipe and o2 housing. They proved that the downpipe did not make gains, but they said that the o2 housing yielded gains of approx 16whp based on their tests.

Ones that replace the o2 housing are called "eliminator o2 housing downpipes" because they eliminate the o2 housing and Incorporate it with the downpipe.

The stock dp is ~2.5"

^Keep in mind those claims are being made by someone who profits from that "data" so take it with a huge grain of salt

true

but there have been other non-biased results that have shown decent gains with an o2 eliminator downpipe.

thanks for the info guys! i think i'm gonna go with ets 02 eliminated DP, money isn't an issue and i want the biggest possible gains for any part i buy.

BTW is the recirculated DP 3" thru as well?

I would go with the AMS. Cast will hold up better and resist cracks over time.

In addition to above.

Best flowing design available, completely replaces o2 housing and downpipe

Yup...including mine https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ven-gains.html
Keep in mind this is vs. stock though, not vs. an aftermarket downpipe w/stock o2 housing.

MAPerformance makes one as well.

I have run both the AMS cast one and I now have the MAP one. Both are great downpipes and both work really well.

I went to the MAP one to get an O2 atmosphere wastegate dump for a bit more power.

I'd recommend either.
