Idle surging, evap leak
Idle surging, evap leak
I'm having a small issue with my Evo X...
I installed the ETS intake and I immediately noticed my idle going nuts. It'll randomly spike from normal to either 2000 rpm or down to 500 rpm. RPMs drop and float around 500 rpm with the AC on.
A couple of weeks after the intake installation, my CEL came on. Got a small evap leak code from my scanner. Cleared it a few times to see if it was a fluke but it comes back the next day.
Anyone know if some vacuum line connected to the intake is causing this problem? Is the CEL related to the new intake?
I figured a tune would probably fix up the idle surging, but I'm more worried about the CEL I'm getting.

Check your vacuum lines and hoses and make sure everything is on snug. There is one vacuum line that's tiny and pops off easily. It causes all sorts of issues if you don't reattach it and secure it with zip ties or something sturdy. Also it causes you to lean out and that's on a stock intake so you can really do some harm if that's what's happening with your CAI installed. It shoudl be the one going to your fuel pressure regulator. Really worth checking it.
Finally did you reset your ECU after installing the intake and took the car out for a longish drive to make sure it does what it can to compensate? (saying that because ultimately you NEED a tune for an intake).
EDIT: Here's the link to the vacuum line you need to check.

I haven't reset my ECU yet but I guess that's worth a shot. Hopefully this fixes everything. Thank you!
This is very confusing. My guess is that the OP installed a new "intake" as defined as the pipe between the air-filter and turbo. This has nothing to do with the FPR hose, which comes off the intake manifold, instead.
I would sugjest investing in a heat shield for the ETS intake if it already didnt come with one, alot of the Idle fluctuation problems I have seen/heard of have been a result of the A/C being on and pushing the warm air into the intake. Might want to look into that, just my 2 cents though.
I did install a full CAI. But, however, I never put a zip tie on the vacuum line that Mitsu forgot about. So, my intake might be irrelevant, but I still have an idea of where the issue is coming from.
Update:
I checked my vacuum lines and nothing has popped off. I did a reset on my ECU and the CEL came back on after a day's worth of driving (mostly highway, about 50 miles or so).
Anyone know the average intake air temperature for a CAI? I want to compare it to the temperature I get on my logs because I actually don't have a heat shield installed. Anyway, I don't think that's causing the evap leak code.

I still need help guys!
I installed the heat shield for the ETS intake and the idle surge is gone.
However, I'm still getting the CEL for an evap leak (small).
I replaced the clamp on the PCV hose and cut the hose down to get rid of the cuts the old clamp left and then did the battery trick to clear the code. CEL came back with the same code about 2 days later.
BTW: I do smell fuel vapors while I'm driving some times. Mostly while the vents are on.
Anybody have any idea what's causing the leak? Trying to get this fixed without getting a smoke test

You might just need a MAF rescale. I would take off the intake and put the stock setup back on then undo the battery for 10 min then connect it back up.
If that fixes it then you need to take it to a tuner if you want to use the intake to have them rescale it.
But if putting the stock intake back on and resetting the computer does not fix it then you have a different problem some where else.
But best bet for future problem reverse your steps to find what caused it.
