Turbo choice

Looking for input from those of you who have been there done that with the EVO This is where my good friend Rick is right now.

He has a 2011 EVO X MR with the SST. It has all ETS parts, intake, down pipe, test pipe, 3.5 inch inter cooler, UICP, LICP and makes 345 and 365 @ 28lbs boost on pump gas.

He has the speed bug now and wants to proceed with making the car faster.
He will never run any other type of gas other than 93 octane.
As for now he does not even want to put cams in.
Later on he will do cams and minor head work.
At the most he will put stronger rod main bolts.

We have discussed going with the following parts.
Option #1 ETS Turbo kit as to what size turbo I have no idea.

Option #2 FP HTA Green or Red with MAP ported stock manifold.

Option #3 Any suggestions as to a complete kit that will give him more power with room to grow.

The supporting mods will be DW65C fuel pump and kit and IDC1000cc Injectors.

Also he will be installing the SSP Stage 2 Transmission package.

Any advice and guidance will be greatly appreciated.

First I'd tell him to look through all the dyno plots on the forums there is a lot of very good info there. But IMO if money isn't an issue the AMS turbo kits are the best money can by for the X they are extremely well engineered and come with everything you need from random hoses to heat shields. When I decide to upgrade my turbo ill personally be going with the ams 750r kit w/5858.

I would say go with a Red and call it day if he is not planning on building the bottom end. Personally I feel T3 is a good way to go but only if you want to go high hp meaning more 500. So I would say slap a Red on, get a conservative low torque tune and enjoy it. If he does decide to build the bottom end you can get mid 400s out of a red as well.

He is going with the SSP Stage 2 upgrade with an SSP transmission cooler and upgraded clutch packs. He has decided to do the following:

Kelford A cams and valve springs.
ARP Rod Main Bolts
DW65C pump
IDC 1000cc injectors

Still been reviewing turbos that will give him quick spool with very little lag and pull like crazy from 20mph to 120mph. I am still reviewing drag strip times and dyno charts to see which of these turbos will benefit him the most. Remember he wants to not have to build the motor and he plans on only running 93 pump gas.

Theses are the turbos we have been considering:

FP Green HTA
FP 71 HTA
MHI TFO6
BBX Lite

Still trying to find other comparable turbos to put him right around 430-450 AWHP and 400-430 AWTQ

Watching this thread very closely. I'm looking to do something very similar to my X MR.

I want savage acceleration up to about 120, but want the car to be very driveable and reliable. Not really looking to set the tracks on fire or kill GT-Rs.

MAP EF2 or EF2.5 make for great pump gas street turbos. I currently have the EF2.5 and am making 425whp/400wtq with stock cams.
