Which clutch for stock CMC?
^this
and
this is part of the reason for my post, 99.99999999999999999% of all clutch reviews: "like stock" or "just barely heavier than stock"
it is not like stock, go test drive a stock evo at a mitsu dealer, not even remotely close to stock. when i test drove the ACT clutched evo, mine still had the stock one in it, so i had a direct comparison of stock vs ACT. its not even close
my original comment stands, go test drive other evo's with the clutch you may be interested in, do not trust anyone else's opinion

Personally, I would just go ahead and do the CMC when you get the clutch done. I am sure you could get away with it for a while but I would just go ahead and do it all at once..
I only know of one person who hasn't blown their CMC after a non-OEM clutch install. All the others have either had it done while the clutch was out, and 2 others I know of blew theirs in less than a month. Just do it all at once so you will have peace of mind, just my opinion, take it with a grain of salt.

I spoke with clutch masters today and they have the new fx250 for our car and has a nice disc design with some new button style design ( whatever that means ) I think I may pull the trigger on this after I do a little more research on it .
But this is wht it says :
FX250 (NEW)
· Extra long life street system
· Holding capacity 70% over stock
· Heavy-Duty reinforced pressure plate
· Hi-Leverage™ pressure ring design
· Sprung hub/cushioned disc
· Steel backed twin friction: Organic side and Fiber Button side
All Clutch Masters clutch kits come complete with:
Pressure Plate
Clutch Disc
Throw-out Bearing l
Pilot Bearing or Bushing (when applicable)
Alignment Tool
I am torn between this one and the Spec stage 2+:
SPEC's Stage 2+ features a multi-friction disc in a full faced configuration with carbon semi-metallic on one side and Kevlar on the other. The 2+ offers the drivability and engagement quality of Stage 2, but with a 15-20% higher torque capacity. The hub is double sprung with spring cover relieves for flexibility and heat treated components for strength and durability. Stage 2+ is suggested for highly modified but daily driven Evo Xs that will see some track time. Torque capacity is rated at 499ft/lbs at the crank.

I appreciate all the advise on this subject and I hope this thread serves to help other X owners looking to upgrade their clutch on a budget. I went with the Exedy Stage 1HD as it holds 385ftlbs....being that a stock block and stock rods are only capable of 375ftlbs I felt this was enough. Its held up to some abuse and hopefully ill see several years of faithful service. I did however upgraded to the Mangus CMC due to the heavier pressure plate and for peace of mind.
From the replies it seems that it is an absolute must. Hopefully future viewers of this thread can gain the knowledge I have as the other threads I have researched gave no solid answer as the argument went either way. Thanks again for all your help guys...and all future input on this matter will be appreciated by myself and other viewers.

Exedy rated their clutch at 382wtq as measured by a DynoJet ( the industry standard). I thought it was rated at the flywheel but Exedy rated it at the wheels. I ordered my clutch from rallysportdirect.com, they also rated it at the wheels.

Hmm, ok. I had a stock clutch at around 35k before it started slipping, and replaced it with the ACT. While it was at the dealer for the install, I did drive a 2012 Evo 10 GSR with about 7k miles on it, and it was a bit lighter than my "worn" clutch, but with a shorter more sudden pick up. Once I got my car back, it felt near the same pressure wise. I'll get my bud with the 2012 whose on this forum to chime in along with my bud with the 2008 and the Exedy.
I guess it is subjecive and relative. I drive it daily for about 60 miles, with a 50/50 mix of stop/go city and high speed interstate. I'm either in 2-3, or 5-6. gear. With my 06 WRX I had to put ice on my left knee at the end of the week from the 30 minute, 5 mile one-way city commutes, just on the stock clutch (but that's another story).

^that evo could have had an aftermarket clutch in it
or even more worrying, ACT clutches aren't consistent (very much doubt this). like i said, i drove a stock clutch and ACT clutch evo back to back, not even close to stock in any aspect (for the record the evo with the ACT clutch also had the stock CMC)
for the record, I'm not in any way saying the ACT is a bad clutch, its a very good clutch, there's a reason every other (prolly even more than that) aftermarket clutch in an evo is an ACT. I'm just saying its not anything like stock

i was driving my own car that had the stock clutch at the time
the reason i'm getting my panties in a bunch over this is cause if i believed all the reviews and got an ACT clutch in my car i would have been pissed. a clutch isn't exactly a cheap part thats easy to change a bunch of times...
