Clutch slipping :( recommendations?
Yup, another one of "these" threads.
Had the car since 36000 miles, at almost 49k now. The other day I was on the way to an appt and got on it a little bit in 3rd gear, boom, clutch slipped. I know it can't be on stock clutch based on how heavy the clutch pedal is, but I won't know exactly what type it is until my shop gets it pulled off.
I can't help but feel its not meant for me to have this car. First the timing chain, then ACD pump, then hit a deer, now this. Getting pretty discouraged.
Anyways, I'm looking at going with an Exedy twin right now, probably gonna have to upgrade the CMC as well. I have one friend with the twin on his 9 and he's saying that's the one to go with, he has about 10k miles and probably 100+ launches on his. I drive 70+ highway miles a day just fyi.
Any idea how long it can be driven with the clutch slipping before it's undrivable? I'm babying it right now, staying out of boost and plan on picking the clutch up sometime next week, that way when it does go I'll be prepared and can just drop the car off when I have some time off.
Overall, this car has been the most problematic car I've ever owned, and its really disappointing to say the least. Who knows whats going to go next.

The heavy clutch pedal feel can also be due to your clutch master cylinder starting to fail (doesn't necessarily mean there is an aftermarket clutch in there). And if it is an aftermarket clutch, the CMC can fail earlier due to the increased pressure from the aftermarket clutch. I can't help you on how long you can drive it...it kind of depends on how badly it is slipping and how much you care about the flywheel. I hope it works out for you, these cars sure are fun.
Update, I picked up the AMS CMC kit, and ordered a new OEM throwout bearing, I figured while they're in there I might as well go ahead and have ti replaced. Hopefully ordering the clutch tonight.
If I were you I would look into trading in your car for a brand new 2014 evo. Reason you're getting those problems (other than hitting the deer, which is (I'm sorry) kind of your fault but mostly deers fault for being stupid) is because you bought a used evo with 36000 miles on it. Evos usually don't last you more than 50k. From that point get into some heavy maintenance. Couple of my friends with 9s and 8s experience this til now. Their transmissions go out, clutches fall apart, cylinders go lean, etc....

All in all here is a list of crap that has gone bad so far on my car, and how much has been spent to fix it. Parts and labor included
Timing chain- $1000 (paid by warranty)
ACD pump- $3000 (paid by warranty)
Deer strike- $9000 (paid by insurance)
Clutch- $3000 (paid out of pocket, I also went ahead and got the AMS CMC because I know it would go out, and sprung for a new OEM throwout bearing.
Fwiw, the body shop hooked me up with a rental until Friday afternoon, and I'm really hoping MAP gets the clutch to me by either the end of this week or beginning of next week. The throwout bearing should be here by tomorrow, and I already have the CMC ready to go.
Well, got the clutch installed today. And as it tuns out, I WAS on stock clutch.... 48,300 miles on stock clutch ain't too shabby.
Now onto the Exedy, holy s***. Before I could slip the clutch a little bit and the car would start to move, with this thing, it's like an on/off switch. I stalled out 4 times already. I only had 1 successful start from a red light, and believe me, that was only by pure luck.
This is def going to take some getting used too. I'll have pictures and more info as soon as I can get them. Let's just say the stock clutch was S-H-O-T.

Well, break in is coming along very nicely! Getting to the point where I don't actually stress about driving the car for fear of stalling out.
My initial impressions,
-The clutch grabs, and grabs HARD
-Shifting feels MUCH smoother and also quicker. It almost seems as if the clutch disengages faster than stock
-FYI I had the t-case/trans/diff fluids all changed when the install was done. I have to say, it makes a world of difference. I went with the AMSOIL trans fluid, and it works great, stuck with stock fluids for the rest.
Also, unrelated, but I swapped over to AMSOIL 10w-30 "dominator" engine oil as well. Haven't really noticed a difference since I've been breaking the clutch in and haven't had the chance to stomp on it yet.
Basically feels like I'm driving a brand new car almost. I did get called out the other day by a guy I work with asking me why I needed such a strong clutch even though I'm stock. While I would have normally agreed with him, I plan on being in the 400-450hp/tq by next year, so I figured I'd go ahead and get the hard part out of the way now.
