ams 2.0l vs erl 2.0l vs speedcircuit 2.2l

Why such a significant price difference? anyone care to enlighten me?

erl 2.0l sleeved:cp, manley pro, race bearings, arp main, = 3.8k

ams 2.0l non-sleeved: je coated, manely-I, high perf. stud and bearings. = 5k+

speedcircuit 2.2l : arias, manley(not specified), arp mainstuds, other parts is OEM (bearings etc.) =5.7k

Based on these the erl 2.0l looks to be the best with sleeves and race bearings for 4k, or 4.2k for sleeved 2.1 and up? or it's just the brand name type of deal?

Don't go off website prices. Call each place up and figure out exactly what they provide. The differences aren't that extreme when comparing the same items.

However, AMS is typically expensive as they can charge that as their work is second to none.

AMS now uses ERL and Darton for sleeving purposes. To reduce downtime they utilize both.

Not fully true. They only do the sleeving, the assembly of the motor (bearings, rods, pistons, clearancing, blueprinting etc) is done by AMS themselves.

All I am trying to say by pointing this out is that you cannot buy an AMS block from ERL for cheaper. That being said, ERL does good work too.

that is current murlo.

If someone wants an AMS block then you gotta pay otherwise just get an ERL built block.

It's like I tell my wife when she wants a new coach bag.

Do you want a tailor made leather bag that's probably just as good for a little less or one just cos it's got a label on it?

Well, just like the coach bags, typically you get what you pay for. I think both are excellent quality, but AMS has earned what they charge from their track record.

ERL is much newer in the evo game and can't charge as much. Not to mention location and overhead costs are different between the two.

I have an ERL one and love it, but with unlimited money I would rock an AMS block for sure. It's tough to argue whether they are worth the extra money, I'd say they are but I don't think they are the only ones who can build a great shortblock.

Just wanted to bump this thread. I am interested to see what other people have to say. I'm looking to max the factory bottom end soon and want to know exactly where I'm headed when I go boom.

I am leaning towards AMS but the difference in cost can = a bunch of other high quality parts.
