Should I replace stock flywheel with Stage 2 clutch?

My clutch is slipping on my 2014 GSR and im going to be putting in a Spec Clutch Stage 2.

Two questions.

1. What is the difference between Stage 2 and Stage 2+?

2. Should I replace the flywheel? Because its calling for an aluminum flywheel for $480.

Any advice would be helpful.

Have you already bought it? I don't recall if the Spec clutches had good reviews or not.

If your stock flywheel is still good, I would just have it resurfaced. That should cost maybe $50.

If you need a fly wheel, the Competition Clutch Ultra Light Weight flywheel [p/n 2-645-1STU] is a nice piece for like $298.

Also, removing your stock clutch pill may help clutch longevity and reduce slippage.

The benefit of upgrading the flywheel is less rotational mass. The engine will rev faster, be easier to rev match on downshifts, and it will feel like you picked up 20hp. The downside is it may be slightly easier to stall the car when starting from a stop until you get used to it. Personally I prefer ACT or Exedy to Spec. Which stage you want to go with depends on your power goals and how you drive the car.

I haven't bought anything yet, the mechanics i'm going through are terrible at communication, but I'm open to other brands. I've heard Spec, Exedy and ACT are good. I'm getting so many mixed answers about if I should do the flywheel or not so it's just a little confusing.

I have a 2014 GSR and after 10k miles my clutch is toast (all daily driving/spirited driving and one really bad winter that did most of the damage from slipping to get moving without stalling in 1-2 feet of snow).

I went with a Competition Clutch Stage 3 full face ceramic clutch good for up to 500-550 hp/tq. The clutch was recommended by Modern Automotive Performance, for street and strip applications and ive seen nothing but good things on this clutch so i went with it.

The guys at MAP, and many people on this forum who have upgraded their flywheel said that for Daily Driving its not a good idea and they want to go back to the OEM flywheel but its all personal preference. Like previously stated, you might stall more often and in some cases over-rev if your not careful on your shifting.

Based on all the recommendations and info ive read im sticking with the stock fly wheel and just having it resurfaced. I may upgrade to a light flywheel down the road when my evo will no longer be a daily driver.

Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Yeah I have spec stage 3 right now and pretty much hate it. To be honest I might have a TOB issue but regardless it's coming out next month and a competition clutch is going in. Probably just going to resurface my current flywheel.
