4b11 question

So, I know the 4b11 can only take 400 wtq. The question is, if I want to take the engine to about 400-450 whp/wtq range, what do I need to do to the engine to make it reliable and safe.

I have searched the threads and found out that the cams are pretty weak after 400 wtq. So upgrading the cams is a no brainer for me.

Sorry for the newb post, just want to do approach this the right way and not blow my engine. Thanks for your help in advanced.

Pistons and rods. Cams aren't going break cause of the torque.

connecting rods is a weak point in the 4B11T.
But since you will open it up might as well change the pistons if your budget let you.
I don't like add on wight if not necessary so i did go with H beams. And the engine is flawless. I used Maenly H beams and CP pistons to get a tiny bit more compression. Remember you running turbo engine so you dont want to raise too much compression
But talk to your builder and figure it out together.

Good luck
Rob

Thanks for your reply. I'll keep that in mind when I talk to the builder.

I have read on other forums that the cams need to be changed as well. Is that false or is there any truth to it?

You DO NOT need to change cams. However getting cams will make your hp/tq goals easier to attain.

since you will have an engine build, change cams too. cheaper this way. you dont want to open up the engine all the time. Because you save money on labor gaskets etc.
