car is a 2013 gsr evo x , tuned with injen intake, uicp, grimspeed boost ctrl, ets test pipe invidia q300, on coilovers. like 3 weeks ago started to hear this weird noise coming from behind the gloves compartment somewhere under the belts in the engine compartment its a whine noise like when you reverse a car. first I thought it was the oil pump, then a mechanic say it is power steering pump, other mechanic say it is timing chain.


no lights coming out on dash at all (perhaps because it is tuned)?
engine oil checked every day and it is normal never lower than normal
car drives fine , idle is good no ups and downs on the rpm however noted slight loss in power.
the noises comes when engine started to warm up either in gear or in neutral with gas pushed.


dealership wont do repair under warranty stated cause car use aftermarket stuff


question


1)does my mods have anything to do with timing chain or just dealer trying to stay away from fixing it under warranty?


2)how do you diagnose this weird noise to know what is actually the problem


3)if it is timing chain how much to fix it plus labor and stuff?

I just had mine done, never heard a noise but did get a light.

Was $1200 repair with parts and labor.

Those mods have nothing to do with it afaik, but they might void the factory warranty

I doubt its the timing chain in a 2013, only the 2008-2010 have the weak chain model

 

Tuner checked the car it is not timing chain he also dont know what it is, he did evoscan everything is fine, could it be oil pump , what is the characteristic of oil pump failure?
