Radiator cooling fan not working
Radiator cooling fan not working
Hi I have a 2008 Evo x GSR and I noticed my car has been getting slightly hotter, just above half on the coolant temp gauge. When I drive on the highway the temp goes back down to normal. I have never heard/seen the radiator fan kick on so I think that's my problem. Which relay/fuses should i check? What steps should i take troubleshooting this.
Thanks
Thanks
Update!!!! the cooling fan DOES kick on...eventually at 198 degrees but its not strong enough to cool the engine. When i turn the AC on high the cooling fan kicks on very strong and cools then engine. I'm thinking fan control module???
Does anyone have that part number???

I checked the overflow and radiator. I turned the ac on and the fans do turn on full speed. The fans still don't turn on at idle to cool the car when it's getting hot. Temp gauge goes about 3 clicks over normal

I replaced the coolant temp sensor and no use
. The fans work perfectly with the ac on idk why they dont kick on to regulate coolant temp. I had my tuner adjust my fan tables a little lower and it seems to help but it still gets hot.

Ok before you go any further, clarify something please. Does the temperature go three clicks above normal and then the fans DO click on? Or does it go three clicks above normal and then you turn it off to prevent it from getting any hotter? There are a couple different systems that control when the fans click on. One, when you turn on the A/C, the fans will usually automatically click on to compensate for the increased engine load and keep the car at proper running temperature (regardless of current temperature). Two, when the car reaches a certain temperature (usually anywhere from 180-220*F) the ECU/ECM will trigger the relay to send power to the fans and cool the car.
Make sure you check the coolant level in the actual RADIATOR, not just the overflow. I think it goes without being said to do this with the engine COLD.

If that makes any sense....
Basically the system for the temperature control functions as
FAN ON IF TEMP > OR = XXXX
FAN OFF IF TEMP < OR = XXXX
Most systems will automatically activate fans if A/C is turned on due to increased engine load.
The car does regulate temperature like that. They kick on at about 198 and make the temp drop to like 182. So I guess it's doing its job I've just never had a car that had the coolant temperature gauge fluctuate like that
