Could exhaust leak lead to slight jerks under acceleration?

Hi guys,

Greetings from Australia! I have always been a rather quiet observer on the forum, still learning new stuff everyday.

I have got an Evo X for around 6 months now, and have decided to put on a catback exhaust to get some noise out of it. The CBE arrived last week, and with the help of a mate, we put it on ourselves with the car on stands. Spent a few hours under the car, and when we got it down, turned on the ignition, sounded awesome!

However, we checked under the car after we had the car running for a few minutes, we noticed there were a few water drops from between the joints. We probably havnt done a very good job in this instance LOL.

Then we took it for a test run, sounded awesome but I notice when it is under acceleration, the RPM will dip down about 1-200rpm and climb back up, so it kinda feels like it is slightly jerking when I apply constant gas. Then, when we had the car parked, shifted to Netural, i rev'd ti 3k rpm, and it just stayed with no dipping whatsoever.

I am just trying to do some trouble shooting, as I cant find any info relating to this.
I will be bringing the car to an exhaust shop to weld in a resonator next weekend, and have it all checked there too, but really keen to know if this is a contributing factor so I could plan in advance.

Thank you for your time guys, and I appreciate every bit of your efforts!

Best Regards,

Bernz

Your fuel pump relay sounds like it needs replaced. When you have the old relay, it doesn't give enough power to the fuel pump during WOT. It's a $20 part.

I think you are absolutely right!
I found some clue and did the salt shaker test, indeed where the problem was.
Swapped that with the hi-beam (even the hi beam one doesn't quite pass the shaker test), it has significantly improved.
I've just ordered a new relay (the blue one), arriving tomorrow and fingers crossed it fixes it!

Not that I'm having any trouble with driving conditions but does any one else have any problems with all these 2 bolt flanges leaking? I almost want slip joints.

I've installed plenty of full exhaust systems and more but my wife's evo x first I installed an ERZ RS CBE. I had an ERZ CBE on my sti and know the quality is not amazing but fit was good.

So it leaked at the factory cat pipe connection. I redid it multiple times different gaskets Grimm speed etc didn't matter.

So the factory cat pipe flange rusted, hacked it off over the weekend and put a ETS catted test pipe in to replace it. Now it's leaking at the stock DP connection albeit very little bit again it's tight to the point that it's going to start stretching threads. I have a Grimspeed gasket in there instead of the vibrant. As the vibrant on my CBE middle connection was rusted and leaking. Replacing the gasket and hardware fixed that one.

Not sure what to do at this point. Add another Mish mash of parts and swap the DP and hope it fits or just replace the setup with something like turbo xs tbe or similar?
