FP Red - CONFUSED!

Has anyone done an FP Red upgrade recently that could let me know what their process looked like? From looking at the site and calling them I'm slightly confused.

I called FP this week and was told it's $1299 for the upgrade (plus my stock turbo of course). However, I was also told it was a Journal Bearing instead of Ball Bearing.... even though the website clearly says BB. I was also told to order online, I tried and stopped when the checkout screen wanted to charge me $10k......

Thanks in advance!

I don't think they offer the ball bearing stuff for the X conversions anymore. You would have to call to confirm that..

That's horrible news! Now I have no clue what to get! I want stock frame, quick spooling 400+whp. UGH!!! I even purchased a spare stock turbo to send off but now I'm not sure what to go with.

ATP GTX3576R or MHI 18K are to great stock turbo options.

The 18k looks good but no ETA on getting one Waiting for FP to open today so I can get more info.

The GTX35 - think a little big for my needs. Would rather have quicker spool.

Thanks!

You can go with the GTX3071R in the smaller 0.73 A/R turbine housing then.

Keep an eye out for a used BBX full BB? Quick spool, and a capable 400+whp turbo.

Any reason for wanting to stick with a stock housing? Just curious

Money. Don't want to have to upgrade other things again. Already have AMS Downpipe and planning to stay stock manifold for now for cost.

Just got off the phone with Amber from FP and here are my notes.
  • Not currently doing BB upgrades, only journal.
  • 6 weeks to get my turbo upgraded.
  • She said if I want quicker spool I can still hit 400-425 on the Green and it'll spool 500rpm faster than the red. Red will do another 100hp if I want at the cost of 500rpm.
  • The Green & that MHI 18k are 'the same'. They don't have any in stock currently and it'll be about 4 weeks before they get more. So around the same time frame.
  • They'll do porting, coating, and 3" anti surge inlets on either option.
  • the 18k is brand new, the green/red i have to send in a core which I already have.
  • Strongly recommends BB if doing any road racing due to journal bearings not doing as well in higher G oil starvation situations
  • BB upgrades will happen again but no current timeframe. Could be a month could be a year.

Also just got off the phone with MAP
  • No longer offering EF series turbos - not even if we send in a core.
  • Suggestions based on desired needs - Blouch & Garrett
  • Dominator 2 or GTX3071r

I would go with the dom 2 in BB form if you don't want to wait for FP. It performs fairly similarly to the red on the 8/9's, with a touch faster spoolup.

Keep in mind, that bb vs jb does not change boost threshold (the rom at which the turbo achieves full boost). It only effects transient response.

The spool up and power on the 3576r is extremely impressive.. I would 100% look a bit more into that little gem of a turbo!
